Maybe this should be in the finance forum as its more about making the food last longer but say if i eat pasta either raw or only slightly cooked does that mean the energy will be more long lasting as it will take longer to break down? Im just trying to make my food last as long and be as effective as possible due to my minute budget once bills and tax are taken from my wage

Are you anywhere near Taiwan? If so I will buy you a steak brother.

To answer your post, yes you are correct from a digestion point of view but it will take water from your gut and make you constipated and uncomfortable.

Pasta is a high GI food so you release the energy quick (and store it as fat if you don’t use it).

Invest in low GI foods such as brown rice, sweet potatoes, brown pasta, raw oats etc They will keep you feeling fuller for longer. Also eggs for a cheap protein hit. The human body is designed to handle periods of low / no food consumption so no big deal if you don’t have 3 meals a day everyday. Just keep your water levels up and activity low if you are getting short on food.

Sorry for mentioning that steak now…

Eat oats. If a food does not offer any nutritional benefit, but only empty calories, do not buy it. Oats are one of, if not the slowest burning carb, in addition to being high in protein and relatively cheap. If you need to up your calorie intake after satisfying macros I recommend brown rice. It is probably the cheapest thing to live on after bread.

Some uncooked starches actually contain poisons, including potatoes, yams, wheat, and most other grains. (Frankly, I don’t know of any exceptions.) These poisons must be cooked out. I do not eat much starch, but when I do I make sure it is thoroughly cooked.

As Snake noted, starch is an empty calorie, and therefore is a waste of money. As Progenitor points out, high glycemic index (GI) foods are bad for you for many reasons.

I’d go with rice and beans and if you can afford it some chicken, bake it then shred it. Also when I was in college I’d eat alot of peanuts, nuts in general are high in protein and curbs your appetite while still providing the nutritional value needed.

THIS…and worse. I went Paleo a couple years ago and haven’t felt better. All carbs do ( wheat, grains, legumes) is give you a nice sugar rush, make you gain weight, and give you high blood pressure among other things like cancer. Unless you’re a professional athlete I can’t recommend eating any of that crap to anyone..and even then…but don’t take it from me, do the research, and if your so inclined you can start here:

Couldn’t be more wrong about legumes. Beans, lentils, peanuts, etc packed in vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, fats(peanuts)and proteins, and they have almost no sugar in them. Have no idea where you are getting that from.

No you are right about the legumes in lack of sugar, what i said regarding the sugar high was meant for the wheat/grains…and yes they do have all those nutrients in them as well…they just also have a high count of lectins compared to other foods…foods which you can get all those same nutrients from and more without the risk..but hey, eat whatever works for you…those foods just don’t work well for me is all.
