If it is more important to you to be dominant than it is to be correct, you are going to lose respect. I’ve seen entirely too much use of sophistry here. We all need to learn and understand logical fallacies so that we do not get trapped by being fooled in one of the two ways: Believing something that isn’t true, or not believing something that is. Also, people aren’t going to respect your opinion about anything if you stoop to personal insults, ad hominem, straw man fallacies, etc. Almost the entire arsenal of “the left” is ad hominem:

1. Homophobic – claim that the person is afraid of homosexuals.
2. Xenophobic – claim that the person is afraid of foreigners
3. Transphobic -claim that the person is afraid of transexuals
4. Racist – claim that the person has hatred for different races
5. Misogynist – claim that the person has hatred for females
6. Sexist – claim that the person believes his or her gender to be superior and the opposite inferior

Ad hominem is latin for “to the person”. The word hominem translates directly to “man” but, its use here represents a person in the same way that the word “mankind” refers to all people.

If you catch me using any of these, even by accident (I’m not perfect), then unsheathe your sword and riposte me directly through the heart with which logical fallacy I lowered myself to resort to. If you rule yourself with these, you will garner much more support and respect for your point of view, as well as your intellect. Remember, it isn’t “you versus me” in a debate to find out *who* is right or wrong. It is YOU AND I collaborating to find out *what* is true or false.

I agree with you. Unfortunately men of logic and integrity are at a great disadvantage when dealing with 99% of the population, who are either too stupid or too malicious to operate honoroubly. However we can, and should encourage it on this site.

The term “phobic” ultimately means “fear”.

If you are afraid of nothing, including death, it is pretty hard to have “homophobia” or “transphobia”.

I tend to think that the Left has phobia about people expressing the truth or having the right to live unmolested. The Left has the innate flaw that they must control everything and everyone.

Domination is far, far from the only reason people are willing to accept a lie over the truth. People will believe a lie when doing so protects their current way of life. The truth can mean that we have to work harder for what we want in life. It can mean that we must judge and bring tension to our friendships/relationships. It means we must face the ugly truths about the society we live in. It means we have to accept each other for who we are.

It comes up quite often when discussing blue pill men. Why can’t he see his wife for who she really is? Because doing so will leading crushing divorce, possible alienation from friends, society in general, possibly even your own children. It means financial ruin. It means questioning everything you used to think about yourself. The truth can absolutely hurt.

And of course, it doesn’t need to be on such a drastic scale. A left leaning person isn’t going to want to accept right wing politics because it’s going to cause stress, possibly severe, to their way of life. Loss of friends and family, possibly reconsidering your own worth , etc. The right, or people who are willing to see some things clearly, are not immune either. The Right are rather unwilling to admit that we have some rather s~~~ty representatives in government, or that Trump is an asshole, for example.

And this is all natural biological instinct designed to protect ourselves from the truth. Ironic, yes, since the truth will set you free, but no one ever said freedom wasn’t painful.

The closet I come to fear or hate is distaste.

I would find it unappealing if someone had explosive diarrhea over my bare feet. That is the closest I would come to having an emotion now. I find things idiotic or distasteful. Other examples would be the emotional, irrational people who seem to think they have the right to dictate what I can and cannot do, regardless of whether or not I’m harming anyone. I find lawyers and the legal system also distasteful. I find the prefix “cis-” to be distasteful, because it implies that you need a special designation if you are not part of the Left-wing freak show. (Is a woman who doesn’t have a beard, CIS-beardless? Is calling herself a normal woman an affront to bearded women?)

I am getting to a point were talking appears to be useless. Either you are conveying practical information or you are wasting your time.

People have lost all shame for being ignorant, and believe they have a RIGHT to have a opinion, regardless of their experience or knowledge of the issue. Superficial knowledge, or simply parroting something they ear somewhere, is taken for knowledge today. Real knowledge is not valued.

Good luck trying to reason with people, as they resort to fallacies and emotional reasoning, essentially avoiding to recognize any of your point and trying to convince you of THEIR points. And if they fail, then they resort to manipulation, shamming, insult or character assassination.

This is how we get into an Idiocracy. Can we get on with that end of the word thing?

I’m at that point as well, mostly because people don’t listen anymore. When someone is speaking, I stand there and listen without interruption because I hate being interrupted when speaking. Even after I have begun talking, most people these days will have no problem being rude and try to talk over me. I’ve actually had more than one person tell me that the reason they do that is because they may forget what they were going to say so they just blurt it out whether I’m finished talking or not.
