1 Windows xp is out of support meaning there no longer are any updates therefore it is doomed to be freeware in just a short period of time.

2 How is downloading what now is considered abandonware (or at least very soon) a disgrace to mgtow? surely aren’t they far worse crimes i could commit? far worse things i can download? I am not asking for software to crack federal computers nor any hacking software rather just a copy of an outdated operating system for personal use and enjoyment through a virtual machine.

You cannot buy a legal copy of Windows XP anymore and even if you do get the media, you still won’t have a legal license. So if you want to use it at all, you’ll have to break the law anyways.

Really I wouldn’t be too concerned, Microsoft is not going to hunt you down for it, that usually only happens with corporate entities.

At this point it’s almost in the category of abandonware. So go find it by whatever means necessary, ebay, torrents, whatever.

We just can’t tell you exactly where to get it. But it’s not hard to find.

But if you’re not looking to run a specific Windows application. I recommend you look into something like Linux Mint. It’s more than adequate for day to day tasks and you’ll be using something that is actually updated and secure. Windows XP is not safe to use on the internet anymore.

I think the guy was just a commercial business selling computers with the pirated copies of the operating system. It is not your typical offender and it is not the norm that windows goes after pirates.

Yeah, they crack the whip hard on anyone involved in commercial piracy of their software. As they should, since they deserve to be paid by those making a profit off the use of the software.

I’ve had no problems recently finding legit copies of XP on eBay for $30. And before I get hammered for ‘why’, it’s because of the need to upgrade computers in a refinery, for reliability. I can’t run old versions of the software on Winblows 7, 8, or 10, and upgrades to the software I must run, cost tens of thousands of dollars. I’ve even recently bought PC’s from a small company with legit XP installed, but with modern processors for same purpose. This way I’m sure all the drivers will work. I’ve also used Virtualbox but for mission-critical work prefer a native installation. XP boots very fast off an i5 with an SSD, even if not optimized for it.

Now I don’t go so far as to buy each Virtualbox install’s license. That’s on the 3 musketeers system, you know, one for all, all for one (license).

The native instillation of windows xp is much better but virtualbox has its advantages.

A lot of web sites are not supporting IE on XP anymore, even Chrome is about to stop running on it or just has quit. Firefox is probably your only option.

There are still a boat load of unpatched Microsoft flaws that can be exploited though.

@frankone: I used to work in a pretzel factory lab where we had to maintain expired Microsoft OSs due to the scientific software not running on anything but NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or even f~~~ing MS-DOS. The practice is quite common due to the expenses involved. I VLANed and kept them away from the internet.

I’m having fun, adding some gray hairs, and making some coin integrating Windows 10.
