Depends on whether we are talking about dating only, or including marriage. I’m inclined to exclude marriage since that involved many other things besides sex. I wouldn’t call child support, for example, as the cost of sex, so to say, as that was more about wanting to be a father than sex by a long shot.

All that said, the marriage part is easily over $100k, considering expenses I would have never done on my own, splitting assets, and child support.

Dating on the other hand, is really very low overall. I’ve never bought expensive gifts, never paid for a vacation, never had live ins, never had outrageous date nights. I would put that at life time at a few thousand.

As a disclaimer, that does not mean to imply dating is cheap and safe. In short, although I’d like to think I applied good judgement, it’s fair to say that I’ve been lucky.

    Ok. Then do it.

    Dear Chir,

I spent about 1.8M, house, divorce rape, insurance, never-ending support; went bankrupt, still owed; moved away…worked elsewhere on internet, got a second job on internet, left the province completely, where the prime divorce rate rules are still present.
Live in two cities 3,200 km apart!!! Literally a “double existence”. Fascinating, truth stranger than anything you could make up.
Zero contact with “cupcake” and in-laws. Paid child support twice over once for her to officially squander (no the child didn’t get a thin dime) and once to the child/young adult directly. Both children had to struggle, but went to school. Built RESP for education (and they needed it all–50 K didn’t go far. But at least they both turned out OK.
I figured well …it’s better than a “coke habit”. Still it’s probably another Mil.

Investment: no stocks, no house, no traceable bank account, only collectibles. While being “bankrupt” bought art, knew what I was doing ;parlayed 35K into 900K ; did it again for child number two…..all while “ex” knew nothing. Each kid a millionaire now, but money does not cure the years of abuse they received from her being “bat s~~~ crazy”. You can’t keep a good man down forever.

She’ll be eating cat food because no foresight, no planning, “squander every cent right now” attitude is all she ever knows.

Meanwhile I gave a condo full of antiquities from Ancient Greece and Rome to my children…how’s that for heirlooms! She was impossible to build anything in collectibles with, always complaining about zero money & no foresight to “build”.

On paper broke, in reality, collecting wheeler – dealer, the only way to survive.
Do you know that if you have a condo in one province and a will in another province, that lawyer can’t probate the will!! (in the other province)
Perfect, the assets seemlessly flow to the kids (who are not at war with one another) Even the lawyer doesn’t know and standard house insurance doesn’t allude to the value, so the Ex’s lawyer doesn’t know crap. Keep all your assets uninsured and hidden; I invite very very few to my “mancave”. Since art can be taken off the wall and hung anywhere, just before you pass, you can give a whole pile away. Alternatively, they can use it for your nursing home care.
Why do you think Brad Pitt buys so much? The stuff the internet shows he has is crap (for the lawyers to see); He buys a serious painting every week.
    Imagine what is NOT shown.

My second kid is an Art major and he told me he didn’t even need to buy text books… just walk through my living room to see classic paintings,…Barbizon’s galore! So, he will know what he’s doing and he doesn’t even want to sell (also real Andy Warhol’s).

Never invest in guns … the lawyers have such crazy laws …odds are you’ll be using it on yourself!

To be honest, I spent $0.00 on women! I saw the light many years ago and got off that ship. I like to learn from other peoples mistakes so I don’t have to make them myself. Guess I am just kind of strange that way………
