This. I forgot all about this until you mentioned it. I guy busts his ass for 40 years hoping to get a chance to retire and spend a little time with the wife, or enjoying some hobbies like she has been doing for the last 30 years. It’s absolutely too late to go back to the kitchen. Women entering the workforce changes the economics. It’s now very difficult for a family to live a middle class lifestyle on a single income. As well, the cost of running a household, including childcare has gone way down due to modern advances and the proliferation of outsourced daycare, cleaning services, food services…not to mention sexual services. The value of a housewife has plummeted.

A housewife really should be classified as a dependent, not much different then if you were taking care of an older parent for example. A minor dependent is different as it has the potential to earn money in the future.

So then the argument is ‘love’. A loving wife would not burden her husband by being a housewife…she would at least attempt to pay for her own basic needs.

I have a fridge and freezer that are full, both barely used
I have a TV, stereo, and other entertainment stuff I barely use.
