So I had THIS exchange with a woman I know today:

Sick of all the negativity. All topics, really. So I am backing off from it and sticking to less newsy social media outlets.

Facebook; where people spread bad feelings about dead gorillas, s~~~ty politics, fussy and judgemental relationship memes, gun arguments, gender bickering, and all around whining. I want more positivity, I honestly want my “ignorance is bliss” routine back.

Facebook makes me overthink everything when all I want to get back to doing is… live in the moment.

Mostly I try not to follow anyone and not engage in any of that stuff… and if I ever feel tempted to do so, I immediately regret it and delete whatever I may have written.

Yeah but I’m just worn out from SEEING it all, never mind if I put my two cents in. Facebook is just our social news hub where we all get to input our farty opinions and feed on what we get to argue uselessly about next.

lol, that and sexy selfies… pretty much sums it up.

I’ve never used social media or communicated really anything online other than a few random postings. I don’t have any apps on a smartphone or data plan or anything like it. I can’t recall the last time I ever e-mailed anyone. Life just seems better the less I reach out and communicate. I have my own interests and a couple of hobbies that I’m really into. Everything is good. I’m busy, I believe I’m fairly happy ..and I’m baking a nice pizza.

Stress isn’t like a water spigot,

Me too and I especially hate how it’s ruining the internet by absorbing everything into itself. People would rather put up C~~~book groups than to build their own websites for stuff and that’s just one example.

For f~~~’s sake, men… this wasn’t a goddamned referendum on social media! “Um, guise… like, um… Facebook? Love it AND hate it, amirite?! Lols, like and subscribe!”

It’s a story about a f~~~ing grown ass human being desperate to stick their head back in the sand at 29 and be shielded from reality.

I mean s~~~, it’s not like I asked you to compare game theory strategies or discuss the constrained vs. unconstrained view with regard to the future of the EU… but I expect at least some of you to read past the first sentence and not knee jerk a can of s~~~ response. Or is that too much to ask?

To be fair, I tend to stay away from all social media. Most women love it for the reasons you mentioned, but those that stay away from it usually do so because they are no longer able to make it all about them. That’s why you see a bunch of women going over to instagram and all that so they can just boil down human interaction to its most basal elements:Showing off t~~~ and ass and getting likes for it.
