Roger on the seat belts. I just don’t like having an armed live bomb staring me in the face especially one mandated by Uncle Sugar. I sit way, way back from it.

However, government regulation is driving the costs of cars into the stratosphere. I do not see a drive by wire constantly nannying you 2017 model car being driveable in 12 years. The electronics will begin to fail left and right though the mechanical systems could be perfect.

I look at modern cars like those from 1974 era. Pieces of s~~~ due to government regulations. The engineers took over 20 years to get reliable cars for us again. My cousin bought a brand new eco-boost F-150. It’s been back to the dealership four times now. I did have the pleasure of pulling up next to one of those eco-boost 4 banger Mustangs. He buzzed, and I rumbled.

I will figure out how to disable the air bag in my truck an example of doing it yourself.

I have a 1984.The last year of gm trucks that had carb and all the electronics,It has a lot of modern suspension but still simple to work one.I just put a Mallory ignition and AFB now made by edlebrock. It has a towing package and dual tanks. It is LWB .I know SWB are the in thing but I like to be able to put a 4×8 panel in back with a camper top to keep things dry.It is the reason I kept it.It was hard to find a LWB truck as they sell most with king cab at higher cost.It only has 120,000 miles on it and paid off when Regan was the prez

    That’s ridiculous…

Some people aren’t rich and don’t aspire to be either and there’s nothing wrong with that. Money does not exist just to be wasted on frivolous things.

The business of saving money, being content with what you have and spending carefully, worked just fine for my older relatives and it will work fine for me too.

@SHR: Trucks have always seemingly been built better be they Ford or GM. I seem to recall they were exempted from many of the regulations that hobbled passenger cars. One of my friends bought a brand new 1988 F-150 with the legendary reliable straight 6. He still drives it.

My friend that killed himself had a 2011 Nissan Versa that had this little bug in the software where at random whenever one would push the pedal the car would struggle to move forward. I was with him once after a light turned green when it did it. We had a truck barreling towards us expecting a normal acceleration. It always took like 3 or 4 seconds before it would finally respond.

The Nissan dealership told him to f~~~ off. He was stupid to have bought that new car as he lost his job 2 months later then his wife died. He had a perfectly good Mazda with 40K miles on it. Wifey decided it was time for a new car so the mangina obeyed. He was my friend, but he was a mangina.

Oh I hear ya about the old F-150s and their staying power. Just built to last back then. I’m a bit of a diesel truck guy myself (Ram 2500 with 6.7L) and follow a couple of engine blogs. All of that emissions laws by the EPA in the 1990s set back automotive engineering like you said C-Pig 20 years. Only now in 2016 do the SCR and DPF filter technology allow for emissions neutralization while not disrupting horsepower and torque. I stayed away from buying a new truck due to all of the maintenance issues.

I did read recently that Cummins Inc. is producing a 90% NOx reduction engine. I bet it is an expensive giant piece of garbage that will take years upon years to perfect. But I’m sure the eco idiots will love it though.

Aquaponics!! My Dad and I have made aquaponic systems before with great success. We had a system with barramundi fingerlings that grew big. The effluence they leave is like steroids for vegies. Had cucumbers growing enormous overnight and heaps of tomatoes. I Recommend getting an Intermediate bulking container (IBC) and chopping the top off and flipping it upside-down to be filled with media, though there’s information on the internet about how to make them.
