I need some guy who can think outside the box.
    Ok, here’s the problem.
I am profoundly deaf. Oh, I can hear noises when people speak but unless a guy has a very deep voice I can’t understand what the hell he is saying.
    Here’s the tech problem.
I use headphones AND my hearing aids to watch movies at home.
But if I have someone over for dinner and then we want to watch a movie he can’t hear because I have my headphones plugged in, which, of course , shuts off the speakers. If I unplug the headphones HE CAN HEAR but I can’t hear s~~~.

Is there some way to rig up a system where I can use my headphones AND he can hear on the speakers ?

    Current system
TV audio output is connected to the stereo amp
Stereo amp output goes to the speakers OR I can plug in the headphones which shuts off the speakers.

Is there a way to use the speakers AND headphones at the same time ?
this one is a real head scratcher.

    Thank you for any advice

Sounds like Windows 10. A useless uncontrollable rogue half-ass engineered pile of s~~~!

Perhaps radio-shack or other electronics outlets may have an adapter or cordless headset.

Personally, I would strip the wires and jack in directly to the speaker, but then you’ll have no stereo, not that you need it.

There’s a thread on it here. One person suggested outputting to speakers and then using bluetooth for headphones. http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-3209250/headphones-speakers-simultaneously-samsung-smart.html

Looking at the answers, it may depend on your tv but an internet search for “speakers and headphones simultaneously tv” may head you in the right direction.

May you walk in peace and happiness, May you and all mgtow, near and far walk in peace and happiness.

    I’m sorry I don’t quite understand the problem…
Why can’t you just take something like this from hearest electronics shop?

I second this. Don’t overthink the problem. Get a Y splitter and plug in your headphones alongside speakers to have both.

No. If the Amp does not support it, there is no way because the (jack)-plug will switch off mechanically the connection between the power amp output stage and the speakers. This is necessary because of the different impedances from speakers and headphone.

e.g. (ignore the “break circuit here”) just an example.
    Plug

When you plug in the jack-plug the contacts (arrow-symbols) will oben and disconnect the speaker.

There are Amps available which can handle this problem (I got a YAMAHA A-5201). They deliver a separate speaker switch which makes it possible to hear either headphones or speaker or both.

Get a Y splitter and plug in your headphones alongside speakers to have both.

This can work, maybe, but it is not a good idea. A Y-Splitter (passive) is a power divider. Because of the mentioned different impedances from speaker and headphone it will may cause a distortion. The Splitter should be an active one for a proper sound.

They now don’t make active splitters without expensive additional functions like equalizer and headphone amp…

I meant actually plug Y-splitter into TV or wherever you get audio signal from. Then one output to headphones, other output to amplifier.

If your audio source is “headpnone out”, as it is today with most TV set, computers, players, etc., then you should have zero problems, as amplifier input impedance is much higher than that of headphones. If headphone insertion upsets sound(say, audio source circuit is s~~~ty), then get headphone amplifier. Actually, headphone amplifier with some select model of headphones can allow you do without hearing aids.

Also, I would recommend you thoroughly check your instruction manual for amplifier and make a careful look over it, especially back panel for additional sockets like “monitor out”. Some can have ready, but non-obvious solution to the problem.

The huge problem with using a “Y” splitter is that the damn flat screen TV’s do not deliver enough power to give adequate volume to headphones. That is why I run the sound through the stereo amp.

Special thanks to all for your advice. With all of the info,
I now have a much better understanding.

I came up with another idea. If I bought a female jack (just like the one on the front of the amp) and soldered wires to it, I might be able to put those wires into the same speaker outlets on the BACK of the amp. Thus when I have a guest, all I would need to do is unplug the headphones from the FRONT of the amp and plug the headphones into the female jack in the BACK of the amp. This , I hope, would by pass the shut off system and allow me to hear BOTH the speakers and the headphones at the same time. ??????
What do you think of that idea ?

Yes, but if I get you right, you want to connect the Headphone in parallel to the speaker. Then you will give the end stage power to the headphone which maybe damage it because the headphones are more sensible and do not need the power the speakers need . So you need two resistors, e.g. 220 Ohms , in application to the hot wires, for the left and right channel, for your Adapter.

Do you just want to hear the TV Sound with speaker and Hedphones ?
Does the T.V. not have a seperate Headphone output? So you can use this for the headphones and the line out for the amp.

Can be solution, though I afraid you’ll get no stereo, only mono, otherwise you might short circuit something…
Before giving any definitive answer, types of your amplifier, headphones and speakers? Also TV’s, maybe it has outputs…

You would need a headphone splitter, then either a second pair of headphones for your friend or just connect to the stereo on the second connection.

Splitting the sound isn’t perfect but it solves the problem.

Hey, Ramses_2, did that help? Any indication?

I appreciate all the friendly posts but no, it did not work out.
I’m just going have a electronics tech guy solder a female plug for me. I will then insert the wires into the back of the stereo the same way as the speakers are connected.
