Yes I know it’s a stupid guardian article. So for starters this article wrongly places women in Australia as economically disadvantaged. This is their choice. I am convinced the problem with women in Australia is they do not understand basic economics. As in supply and demand. For example, the article states, “Nareen Young wrote in 2013 that “women’s work has never been seen as meritorious or valuable as men’s”. It’s now 2016, and the traditionally female-dominated professions of care work, community work, healthcare, human services, education, retail, food services and accommodation work pay less than male dominated fields of construction, engineering, mining and finance.” This should come as a no surprise to those of us that understand basic economics. The reason your job pays less is because there are thousands more waiting to take your job. Especially in the fields of construction (dangerous), engineering (difficult and long education), mining (dangerous), and finance (difficult education and extensive) to compare it to retail, and food services (really?) you have to be gender studies educated to be this stupid.

More whining for Government Largess (read taxpayers money) IMHO.

In western countries there are LAWS enough to ensure “fair” and equal wages for equal work for men and women.

I worked with HAZMAT, Dangerous Goods (all types), outdoors in all types of weather, all types of “hazardous” environments, long hours with no overtime pay, specialist training, and working alone or in small teams. Any and every woman who did the same s~~~, was paid the same amount as every man who did the same s~~~.
Honestly for every 1 woman in that field there were 2500 men doing it, in some cases you couldn’t find a woman willing to be anywhere near the “job”.
When I retired from that, I went into another physically demanding “field”. The same legislation was in effect, and the same results transpired.

Ladies and gents, if you want the same pay as someone else, you have to do the same job to EARN that pay.
Comparing my earnings due to my skill sets to a waitress, a secretary, a gas pump jockey, a shelf stocker, or someone who paints fingernails for a living is ludicrous.

If a single woman cant afford to “live” in a city, then LOGIC dictates that a single man earning the same wage cant afford it as well. so p~~~ off.
Where I live, welfare recipients live better than most working class people who work full time,and live at a higher standard than ALL minimum wage earners.

You know whats fair?
Earning your own f~~~ing keep, so that no one else has to pay for you.
