My mom had her issues but she raised me strict and taught me how to clean and she cleaned and baked and did cleaning for others, and worked real jobs without making excuses and ditching work or let the house go because she was tired. Standards. A regular schedule. House rules. Consistency.

And a big factor in it is not strategically using corporal punishment early and when you say you are going to. My parents did, I know they did not want to, and only had to do it maybe 4-5 times growing up. But you warn the kid it will occur if they dont stop, then you do it and tell them clearly why and if they dont stop it will happen again, and it usually doesn’t have to happen again. Not right away anyway. Then the mere mention of it the next time they act up will generally be enough. Because they know you will do it. Its biblical. It works. Its not beating because you are taking your anger out, its not done for more than 4-5 smacks or with a cane or to do damage, its physical correction to correct behavior and instill respect and discipline and what the parent is trying to impart proper behavior for their household.

None of these parents do it anymore and they cant get their kids to behave and so the schedules go long and so everyone else in her world suffers, her boss, her coworkers, her spouse who she gets angry at for her inept parenting but blames him for not doing enough to nullify her failures…

I was really offended that the older boy had to step up and be the little man of the house. That always p~~~ed me off about the situation that some of my students were in. Imagine being in 5th grade and it is your job to round up a couple kids from 2 different schools and then walk home from school and wait until 7pm when single mommy got off work at the meat packing plant. These kids had to do that, cook dinner for themselves and their little siblings take care of then and sometimes put them to bed. One of the reasons why the school district had a no homework policy. Older kids became parents at age 10.

At age 3 to 4, I began fixing things in the household.

Often things my father showed me how to do. Or I watched him do it.
