One of my favorite pastimes (since the July 17, 1996 TWA Flight 800 Disaster) has been commercial aviation. I was introduced to flight simulation during high school in early 2000 (after fleeing Detoilet). I’m not sure if any of you are into Flight simulation, but I completed a 7 hour flight from Dwtroit Metropolitan Wayne Country Airport, which is my home airport (and a MAJOR Delta hub/Gateway to the West) to London Heathrow on a Delta Airbus A330-200, touching down at 10AM EST (Detroit Time)

I take a lot of screenshots during my flights and Upload them to flickr, some are amazing, some are meh.

Some of my very first screenshots (Flight Simulator 98):

That immediately stopped the moment my mom c~~~bitchface, found the installation CD and broke it in two, then proceeded to beat me until I f~~~ing bled all over the f~~~ing house.

How cruel can another human being be to do something like that to a CHILD?!?!?

November 2006 rolls around with a laptop, and my boss (I worked at the local suburban Kroger in a rich enclave of Oakland County) let me borrow his set of FS2002 CD’s after he saw my FS98 sim.

I used FS2002 from 2007 to 2009, when I downloaded Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight. That was a game changer for me. Avsim and Flightsim had scores of FS2004 addons, FSX had previously been released three years earler and my PC was not able to handle it. It was later stolen, along with the PC out of storage. Here’s an FS9 screenshot from then, with a Northwest 747 performing the legendary Kai Tak IGS 13 approach:

This is when i was also introduced to the PMDG 747-400 and CLS 747-200 classic, along with FlyTampa Sceneries. From there, I was hooked.

Real Environment Xtreme came along as a 2013 addition, making FS2004 loook like this:

The first thing I do nowadays, is to install either FS2004, FSX, or Prepar3D on a new PC.

For now, I have to tolerate the poor performance caused by the Turbo Core crap on my HP Pavilion TS-15 N210DX. AMD overdrive helps, somewhat.

there are online communities of “pilots” who fly according to real world real time schedules. sschedules. I tried doing this for a while…take off before class, then let auto pilot fly the plane, then come back in time to land the plane.

You mean VATSIM? I fly on my own time. I tried Vatsim, but people were such noobs or trolls, didn’t know what they were doing, so i said f~~~ it. I am a person who does his own thing.

I did the autopilot thing last night from Quonset to Baghdad. Woke up around 10:30 this morning and the flight was less than an hour out of Baghdad and approaching fast.

I’ve tried Prepar3D too. It’s essentially Microsoft Flight Simulator X on steroids. I’ve ported the original FSX planes over to P3D

I used to load the FS flight computer with all the necessary VOR’s for transcontinental flights, I can land a 747-400 right on the money with glide scope indicator, it’s truly like landing a ship compared to a row boat light aircraft. I could land a real one if I had to. I already know how to fly and that was prior to flight school when I taught myself how to fly with RC models.

My favorite is combat flight simulators, I’m real good, I can hold mental trajectory all the way to the ground in a dog fight from 20,000 AGL with tracers going bye!

The Soviet L-39 and the A-10 are two of my favorite aircraft for handling in different envelopes of flight characteristics.

I’m also proficient in rotary wing and fly heli models.

F~~~ this, I’m gonna go play with my flight simulator on the other computer!

I did a knife edge with that 747 on that simulator between the WTC north and south towers! It was tight, but I made it! Try it out!
