If you don’t live under a rock, you probably have heard of The Simpsons. It’s record-setting run on TV has most of us familiar with Bart, Milhouse, and the rest of Springfield’s silly antics. If you’re into anime/manga you probably have heard of Akira. This 2,000+ page science fiction epic of brotherhood, drugs and exploding heads is entrenched in many minds.

    Now smash them together.

    Behold: BARTKIRA!

It’s an in-progress fit of madness where volunteer artists do a frame by frame and page by page retelling of Akira with the setting and characters swapped with the Simpsons. The goal is to finish this thing in two years or less. They’re already up to book 3 of Akira including Springfield-style intro, outro and art splash pages and they’re still going.

    Here’s a taste of the weirdness…

After 24 hours I check back and find I totally borked the link in the first post. D’oh!

This should be the correct link to Bartkira.

And yes, as a fan of both the Simpsons and Akira, this is awesome. It’s surprising how well the characters line up with each other. You wouldn’t think this would work so well, but it does! It’s the peanut butter chocolate phenomenon.

Some of the art is amazing, some of it is OK and some of it just works better than it should. I can’t wait to see how it all finishes out.
