Denis Villeneuve, the movie director. Every generation, there are few artists who rise above it all. This guy is on a winning streak. I watched Sicario again last night, on cable. The film speaks volumes. It’s strong because of it’s director and his team. I have not seen the sequel but could it possibly be better than the original? God damn it, I love Benicio del Toro. I’ve always liked Josh Brolin too. Here are a list of Villeneuve’s films.

    Maelström
    Polytechnique
    Incendies
    Prisoners
<- Haven’t seen these 4 early ones but I’m going backwards to view them just like I did with Christopher Nolan (another badass director)

Enemy <- Cerebrel, sedated, opaquely deafening through subtlety and ultimately surrealistic. Not for the feint hearted or easily bored. This is not an action thriller. It reminds me of Under the Skin a Jonathan Glazer masterpiece but Glazer seems to be wasting his life making commercials instead of films.

Sicario …. just go f~~~ing watch it, the music, the thermo-heat signature kills, the plot. (Don’t worry, the annoying bitch gets put in her place).

Arrival ….I loved this movie despite it’s shortcomings. Where it lacked (likely due to producer’s overarching authority) it more than makes up for in originality, tone, execution and plot. It leaves you contemplating an interspecies relationship 700 years in the future, that is no easy task and that is what art like this is supposed to do to you, invoke a tornado of imagination. And I must say, the extraterrestrial sentient life portrayed is without a doubt, the most genuinely un-anthropomorphic I have ever seen in cinema. That alone is laudable! I do not want to see ET’s displayed with human anatomical features, human grammar and human social behavior. (not to say that we won’t find similarities out there, but its been over done and reeks of no imagination)

Blade Runner 2049 Flawless on most levels. We’ve covered this ground before. I’ve personally explained the DEEP philosophical underpinnings here, especially in their relationship to brotherhood and male virtue. Our hero is a mgtowesque hero. The only thing that p~~~es me off about this movie is the movie poster. Horrendous marketing. Looks like puke. But the film is so good it hurts.

DUNE ! He is set to begin shooting next year. Lets hope nothing happens to prevent him from forever changing Sci-Fi. He may just beat Ridley Scott and Kubrick to being the greatest of all time! Cant f~~~ing wait!

I just started reading the book last night. Already made the mistake of watching some of the old movie which now the images are stuck with me. But I’m determined to read the book slow and meticulously so the new film will have some real ground.

Not sure what Bene Gesert is yet but I recognize it being mentioned in the first few pages. The reading is THICK bro, it will probably take me over a month to read it, an hour each night.

Holy f~~~ glad you posted this. Recently I have paid more attention to what directors I like rather than actors etc… This was a director who went unnoticed by me, despite the fact that I have seen most of his films, I just missed that he was a director on all of them. Based on his Blade Runner 2049 I think his Dune remake will be amazing. I also like the original Dune. That is really something to look forward to.

I’m carefully optimistic about this remake. Very carefully.

I hear you Nerevar, I think we’re in good hands. Denis Villeneuve is going to do it justice. I’m blinded by optimism. I hope it turns out okay. His Bladerunner was beautiful so I’m confident.

I actually still like JJ Abrams. His PC submission is grotesque but his abilities to direct are still locked on. He’s a damn fine director. Everyone is just p~~~ed because he’s a pushover for the Femninazigalitarians. And they have good reason to be p~~~ed but give the man his due. Startrek into Darkness is still topnotch filming.

James Cameron is an idiot and lost cause. F~~~ing Avatar, I want to kill someone its such s~~~.

I’m still confident we’ll get something good out of Spielberg, maybe a few more good ones. With Spielberg, I’m waiting for him to take the black or red pill, don’t worry, I’m not holding my breath. Enough with the G rated family crap sir. Damn near ruined Artificial Intelligence. Even Saving Private Ryan was too ‘happy ending’esque’… we need some more heavy s~~~ like Minority Report or Schindler’s List

Quit acting like a pussy Spielberg!

Man, I almost fell asleep during Minority Report, was one of the most boring movies I’ve ever seen in a cinema.

rewatch Minority Report. For Speilberg, it’s actually quite dark. Anyway, I thought it was a decent flick, seen it many times.

Matching Kubrick, possible. Speilberg on the other hand only if he gets two lifetimes.

I retract my bashing of Saving Private Ryan. That movie is gritty and hardcore, a masterpiece and it isn’t a happy ending at all, Hanks dies along with several other heroes. I don’t know what I was thinking. Spielberg is fine. The original Jurassic Park is boss too, screw the new crap. The really lost me on the 3rd one when they brought back Sam Neil which was a good idea but the script was terrible and the movie worse.

By the way, I stopped reading DUNE the book about 40 pages in. It’s too hard to follow. The names and all the crazy verbiage is too complicated, I can’t even pronounce that s~~~ in my own mind while reading. To top it off, there is too much Arabic bulls~~~. I realize it was written 55 years ago but I have a personal problem with Islam that goes pretty deep, Ive been to Iraq and seen it up close. The book is not the sci fi I wanted it to be.

Ive read a lot about the reviews of it. It seems many people agree and many stop reading it. Ill probably give it another shot after I watch the movie. I already read the cliffnotes Wikipedia for DUNE so no surprises left lol.

I’m going to focus on reading other Sci Fi which retains the more classic ingredients, A SHIP, A CREW, A SIGNAL…
