I wasn’t sure where to put this forum wise, so this might be a good spot.

I’ve always thought about owning an extremely good pair of shoes. I’ve heard that buying off the shelf from some very well made retailers (often not within the US) is a good way to get some and some recommend having shoes custom fit by a leather shoemaker.

I’ve always wanted a pair with some classic styling, that are durable and very comfortable, that fit my feet well (I wear normal 10D sizes, so nothing difficult there) and that last many years. I have heard of shoes being re-soled many times as they are so comfortable, etc…

Men, your thoughts on an extremely durable, comfortable and yet stylish pair of shoes?

Stylish shoes only attract women. Proceed with caution.

The three most important factors in choosing shoes is:
    1. Comfort.
    2. Comfort.
    3. Comfort.

Well I have always heard that Italian shoes are pretty good. Don’t know if they are comfortable though. Women judges men by the shoes they wear! are you trying to impress a beautiful and unique snowflake ? 😜

Echo makes a good shoe, but be ready to spend $200 +.

    Don’t buy online- that’s a big mistake.

Unfortunately you need to go to someone who specialises in shoes and yes – it is not cheap. However the economy for retail is not good so you may get a bargain.

Try some on. Walk a bit for comfort. Leather is always the best.
Again – your choice of style.

Sperrys are pretty comfy and durable. I used to buy high end b ball shoes and some to beat around in. I’ve had a pair of 13 dollar Walmart mesh tennis shoes for 2 years and they are hardly wore out. Just depends on what you want. As others have said hoes just your foot wear. Next time you see a bunch of them watch their eyes when you walk by they look at your feet. Cheap Walmart shoes are hoe camo! They ignore me haha!

    Nothing wrong with looking nice.
This is out of my price range, but I’ve learned what I know about shoes from this guy:

Im still looking for an ergonomic, breathable, long-lasting shoe that can be walked in on polished concrete all week. Any suggestions?

Interesting, I like some of the Oxfords. My problem with Oxfords for the most part is padding above the heel is often lacking, and the back top edge rubs my tendons in the back the wrong way… but you might be on to something here…

Not trying to, but that may be a side effect. I have to wear dress style shoes to work… often suits… so something that goes well with them and is yet comfortable and will not make my feet hurt.

Others have mentioned some good brands, I have had ECCOs before, they are good, not had any Sperry’s yet but I’ve found some decent ones over the years but they only last me about a year to year and a half. I’ve heard of men talk about their very well made shoes that last them ten or fifteen years, sometimes longer if they are re-soled during their lifetime.

As towards the snowflakes. They melt over good shoes, that is true, but f~~~ them. I just want my feet to not hurt from cheap shoes.

No matter what padding is in the shoe, I always get a gel insole.

I don’t think i’ve ever owned a pair that were stylish and comfortable. I go for comfort, versatility and durability. I’ve got 3 pairs of the same design. I get at least 2 years of daily use out of them and i walk everywhere. Not bad for $75.

    Gerald,
At first I thought writing about shoes was a little bit tuna.
Frankly, I don’t much care about shoes, but I have to; I’m in health care and sometimes on my feet for 18 hr days. So, here it is from a physician…the shoe has to be deep enough to accommodate an insert and I don’t mean Dr Scholl’s. The molded orthotic made exactly to your foot goes inside a good quality shoe. I checked the suggestion by Stealth and they are in British pounds, so they are about 1.67 times more expensive than my $350 Cdn. They are great shoes, look good, stand the test of time, and more importantly, the abuse I put them through !!!; even walking on an Alberta farm in the winter in a fresh snowfall.

I buy 4 shoes at a time 2 brown 2 black. Mephhisto.. They’ve never let me down in years. They have always room for the orthotic. Truth be told, the guy that made the orthotic in Canada was so good that a USA major football team had him to the orthotics for the whole team & flew him down. My orthotic is more expensive than my shoes and harder to get!! It’s hard to get him, to make more. He is out of the country so often….but orthotic perfection was my demand. I do musculo-skeletal medicine.

Around this area, and going west you find boot makers. Enough of them around that it is fairly common to get boots made. I can see myself getting custom boots, for several reason.
