I do not think that it is an un-likely story. Women automatically expect men, whether related to them or not, to help them, i.e. because of vagina, and we know that women share information with and talk to each other. Throughout my life, women have only ever bothered with me whenever they wanted advice/help from me, and they never gave me anything in return. Women, like children, are not used to hearing ‘No’; such a small word has a big effect!
