A remake of a cult classic was released just a few short days ago. Unfortunately I had not played the original when it came out, but I did get a chance some years ago and, while at parts frustrating, was a unique experience that was well worth the effort.

As far as remakes go, so far, this has got to be one of the best in my opinion, the others being Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. I understand the latter is a bit split amongst fans, as there are a lot of changes. I would like to say anyone who enjoyed SotC has little to fear as it is very true to the original experience.

There are some extra features thrown in but none are at all intrusive and you never have to give time to any of them. The one addition I like most, though, is a new collectible known as relics. Extremely well hidden and something I kind of regret spoiling myself about, so I recommend just looking for them on your own in places you’d think there’s nothing in.

In terms of story, while I don’t think it’s the intended message, I do think there is something to take away from the main conflict of the story; a not quite typical archetype of a man willing to sacrifice himself for a woman. Don’t want to give away much beyond that for new players, though the people behind the game tend to be minimalists and deliberately leave a lot open to interpretation, so I’ll wait and see if anyone agrees with me or not.

Overall I’m still unsure whether I enjoy it or The Last Guardian more. I felt more a bond with Trico, but at the same time I love the somber, lonely atmosphere of the Forbidden lands and facing the giants. Both can get a little repetitive, but both do offer different things to break it up a bit.

"I have the fury of my own momentum." "With this ring I thee wed. Fire walk with me."

I don’t like any of these types of games – ICO was boring as was as SOC and LG

    Bit too “arty” for me

I had my time with SoTC when I was younger. I really enjoyed the story and how the odds always seemed against you verses the Colossi. But once again I cannot see myself paying money for another remake.

I really enjoyed the original. It was intriguing and had great style. I don’t like remakes, but I may check this out.
