Per divorce law here, had a friend do the serving of divorce papers to my ex via restricted certified mail. Before going on vacation, I sent her the response form to send back to me and the court.

Our separation agreement was mediated a year ago by our mutually-hired lawyer, with child support, visitation, property division, etc already hashed out and incorporated into the papers I had served last week — essentially an uncontested divorce, at least so far.

So think good thoughts that everything pretty much goes according to plan and the divorce hearing comes quickly and is over painlessly. I have not talked to the ex today to see if she got the stuff, etc, and a court date will be assigned after the response is received by the court.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart-R'as al Ghul.

May the waters be smooth and the sky be cloud free for you. Enjoy your vacation. Really only a small fraction of divorces end up contested.

Good luck — your path sounds similar to mine (with legal differences due to location).

Here’s hoping its all smooth sailing and you can close off that part of your life.

Your lawyer is also representing her? Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I hope the best for you, but that lawyer is working for his/herself, and the most money is usually made in screwing over the spouse who has the highest income.
I don’t want to throw cold water on this, but be prepared to hire another attorney if your lawyer starts telling you, at the last minute, there are some “concessions” you will need to make.

Surprisingly, the lawyer has been decent, as far as lawyers go. After we did the Separation and QDRO (split of retirement assets), he said he’d help us file pro se, so all was paid was paying the court for the small filing fee and the cost of certified restricted delivery of the divorce papers to ex.

So, basically just waiting on the papers to arrive to the ex (should be a day or so) and then the green certified mail receipt, and the response from her (which I helped fill out for her) to match the divorce paperwork — the response form has corresponding numbered check boxes for each paragraph on the divorce filing form.

I’m not sure how long it will take them to set a court date. Hopefully soon.

Best of luck, you aren’t out of the woods yet – but close. Please be vigilant.

You are blessed she left. I’ve got one that will not budge.

Yeah, I know. This is a dangerous period… the hammer that can break my chains can also break my ankles while I’m working on getting free.
