This is what the police are trained to do during an “active shooter” situation. Hide behind cover and call for backup.

This shows how reliable, or lack there of, police officers are during an “active shooter” situation.

Unless the shooter is actively targeting the officer in question, said officer is not going to stick their neck out and deal with the shooter until backup arrives. And by then, the situation will likely be a siege. Though, in this case, by then the shooter escaped the immediate area, only to be captured later.

And they wonder why civilians want to be armed. You can’t count on the police. They don’t want to be shot. And I don’t blame them. I don’t want to be either. So first chance I get, I’m taking the f~~~er down.

That’s the thing I find rather odd. From everything I’ve ever read or heard, 100 years ago, no one expected the police to protect them from harm. The cops job was to arrest people who are accused of committing a crime. Not to prevent it. The only prevention of crime was the threat of punishment after the deed was done.

No, people expect that police and law enforcement in general are supposed to prevent crime from happening, yet not take away anyone’s rights in the process.

For this case, I don’t know what the protocol was and if he followed it correctly. I don’t know if he knew how many shooters were there or not. He may not even know if there were hostages to be concerned about. I reserve judgement till I know the facts. Scratch that, I’ll let other people judge him, not really my concern.

    Ok. Then do it.

Well considering how many rights have been infringed upon to make the jobs of police easier, and how much money is spent on law enforcement and prison, I think people are justified in expecting more.

As far as the Supreme Court goes, they’ve ruled there is no police duty to protect and they can’t be sued for failing to protect. So f~~~ it, I will protect myself and anyone who tries to prevent that is my enemy.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart-R'as al Ghul.

He is and was one. His job was to protect and serve. If I was there, and I was armed, I would had ran in there and taken the perp out. Why be a cop if you’re not going to do the job you were hired to do?

Working on getting my unrestricted carry and taking NRA shooting courses to increase my skill. Cops only come around AFTER the altercation happens. Rarely do they put themselves in harms way. Heck, most them around here earn 150k +. Never knew becoming a cop would be such a cushy career. I missed my calling.

Warren v. District of Columbia[1] (444 A.2d. 1, D.C. Ct. of Ap. 1981) is an oft-quoted[2] District of Columbia Court of Appeals case that held that the police do not owe a specific duty to provide police services to citizens based on the public duty doctrine.

I remember another story of a guy fighting a attacker off himself while the cops stood on the sidelines.

There was an old adage in the Coast Guard: You have to go out; you don’t have to come back.

Divulging the guy’s name was definitely not a good idea…it could put him in danger ultimately. I obviously wasn’t there and I’ve never been in combat, so I can’t judge the guy or say that he was a coward because I don’t know what I would have done. Granted, he was an officer and trained to do something, but I don’t think anyone expects a school shooting to happen. I never expected it as a teacher. On one hand, I feel sorry for the guy because he is going to have that on his conscience for the rest of his life. He’s also likely going to receive hate-mail and probably get harassed by people in the community.

I would make the bet that there are many on this site that “average” more range time than the “average” police officer.

Many police officers fire once a year at the range.

The only thing the man did was call in a description of Cruz. Did not even try to stop the man from leaving the crime seen.
