Russia can’t stop the US airspace domination by any means.

The U.S. panicked like school children when The Soviet Union launched Sputnik…and the Chinese wanted the Soviets to “unleash the power of Sputnik against the unholy United States”. I don’t think Russia is challenging our power to dominate in the world. That distinction goes to China.

Russia’s main advantages are the fact they still have military infrastructure (R&D, etc) which gives them some momentum and oil & ng. For various reasons, the latter advantage is only useful to a point, and the former will eventually be eclipsed as other countries develop their own comparable (labs, research, testing facilities, advanced proving grounds, etc)

They have nukes but that is only useful insofar as deterring an attack against them with nukes; it is difficult to leverage them for other purposes.

Russian’s disadvantages are a small population and an economy that has limited future potential.

China doesn’t have those disadvantages. Comparing Russia to China as a long-term threat to the US is like comparing chicken pox to small pox. I’ve also noted that China’s leader is not constrained anymore by term limits.
