I found this idea on how to lose weight, and I want to know from anyone here. Does anyone do rucking? If so, what is it like, and what are the results? Reason I ask is because I want to do more outdoor workout activities and if rucking really does make people lose weight, then what the hell. Also if it doesn’t work, then I won’t spend any money on a rucksack. If it does work, is it something that can be done on a bike even though it’s walking? So does anyone here do rucking and how is it?

Rucking = You put weight on your back and go walking or for a hike.

"It seems like there's times a body gets struck down so low, there ain't a power on earth that can ever bring him up again. Seems like something inside dies so he don't even want to get up again. But he does."

Well that wasn’t the answer I was looking for. All I get is a stupid reply and another to correct that stupid reply. Thanks for all your help.

I know that rucking is walking around with weights in a pack on your back. I just want to know is what kind of results does it have, and can it be done on a bike?

Yes-rucking works wonders. It’s good for the body, the mind, and the soul. Get a ruck, a hydration bladder, some weight, and get going.

If you want to ruck to lose weight-check out the events at goruck.com. Make a goal to sign up today to do one of their Challenge events within three months from today. Having a specific goal to accomplish a feat of strength helps with weight loss long term (remember–make your goals S.M.A.R.T. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Bound) If you are very out of shape right now–sign up for the Light event instead. You will be guided and inspired during the event by former Special Forces cadre–the Reddest Pilled of Alpha Men. You will not regret it.

Congratulations on taking the red pill towards self-improvement and towards the strongest version of yourself.

Well from my time as a Bootneck I can tell you that yomping about with gear without a doubt trumped all other phys. Gym , circuits, running, swimming nothing beat having a pack on your back when it came to weight loss.

To counter that we would have to eat insane amounts to stay fighting fit.

Must be the duration of activity coupled with the additional load that just stacks up all those calories.

Former Military medical personnel. I not only experienced what rucking can do but I treated those who may not have been quite prepared for it. It can be an absolute physical and mental battle the further you push yourself. I never observed rucking in a purely weight loss context so I cannot speak for that.

The standard time and distance for us was 12mi in 3hrs. Your beastly ruckers were much closer to 2hrs. We would have a 50lb ruck plus weapon, water source, plates and helmet. If you haven’t rucked much in the past or have poor footwear expect your feet to be torn apart. We started newbies at 30lb with a 4mi goal in 3hrs. I’m going to assuming you can’t carry an M4 around so try to bring some hand carry weight (about 8lbs) to make sure your arms are benefitting as well. Start slow and work yourself up or you are likely to hurt yourself, I’ve seen it all too often.

    Tips:
    – Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Bring some carbs with you for longer rucks
    – Wearing silky dress socks under your normal socks helps reduce friction and blistering
    – Pack your ruck so it’s top heavy
    – Your ruck should be tight. Any movement is additional force you have to compensate for

    Warnings:
    – If you have bad hips, knees, ankles or back take it real slow to begin with
    – If you are a diabetic know your restrictions, they will be tested

Can this be done on a bike, or does it have to be walking? I’m more a biker than walker.

I hear to start with 10% of body weight, which for me would be 25 pounds of weight. Yes my back isn’t in the best of shape. I sometimes ache after getting out of bed.

If you think about it, we all rucked as kids when we carried heavy loads of books and junk in our school backpacks. I wasn’t out of shape then. So if rucking is no different than walking to school and back, then this shouldn’t be any problem.

I’m red pill on everything. I overdosed on them, but didn’t get sick on it.

Well best of luck with dropping the weight.

I see no reason why this wouldn’t work with a bike.

If i try riding my downhill bike cross country it destroys me. Its about 3 times the weight and the travel on the suspension makes it even harder.

I would disagree with only one thing Iremeberlights said and that is:

    – Pack your ruck so it’s top heavy

Goes against what I was taught and observed for myself. Whats the reasoning behind it ?

May I ask what you were taught? Any particular suggestions to the contrary? I’m always up to try something new.

We were taught to use the weight as ‘momentum’. How do you go up a hill? You lean into it. If your weight is closer to your shoulders when you lean forward the weight extends beyond your hips. It gives you the sensation that the ruck is pulling you forward. If the ruck is packed to where the weight is low it’s instead pulling against you, making you feel like it’s standing you up. If your ruck is not packed tight however vertical oscillation (bouncing while you walk, which you should be trying to eliminate) will kill your momentum, especially if it’s top heavy.

Can this be done on a bike, or does it have to be walking? I’m more a biker than walker.

I’m sure you could accomplish wearing a pack while riding a bike. My concern would be that your invalidating the most of the weight in a seated position. I would say a much closer experience while still eliminating impact would be using an elliptical.

GORUCK just released a new incentive today for a *FREE* event of your choosing. They had a special for free event for active duty/first responders, but as of today are extending that to veterans and members of Team RWB:
    http://www.goruck.com/thank-you?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=CLAIM+YOUR+FREE+EVENT&utm_content=FREE+GORUCK+Challenges+for+Veterans+%26+Team+RWB+Members&utm_campaign=Team+RWB/Veteran+Free+Event&_bta_tid=22719865351054712939138347215438216488863873978248094662071223388210688

If you aren’t a veteran, you can join the veterans organization Team RWB, then try out a GORUCK event.

You mentioned wanting to ruck to lose weight-these rucking events for civilians are the best way to accomplish that task in my opinion. Good luck. Get ready for the good livin’

Well I just ordered my rucksacks. I wanted 1, but I couldn’t decide on 2 colors I liked, so I got them both to please both desires. I got the ACU (some kind of digital camouflage pattern) and army green colors. I can’t wait to get them and try them out.

Now to look into getting a cheap used tire and 20′ chain to use to workout with in the driveway.

I would of shown the images of the 2 rucksacks I bought when I made the previous post, but Photobucket was under maintenance. Here they are:

    Army Green:

    ACU:

Like I said, I wanted 1, but I got caught trying to pick one of 2 I liked, so instead of self-debating, I decided to go with them both. Problem solved.
