I thought they were as proud of their hovercrafts as they are the Harrier Jump Jet? What happened?

With all those weapons & survival gear, they were defeated by quicksand.

"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)

Advanced Operational Intelligence and Tactical Situational Awareness were sadly missing during this assault landing exercise.

You have to admire the team spirit each soldier showed by continuing to throw themselves into an obvious environmental obstacle.

Of course, 60-80 lbs of gear helps one to float like a brick and sink like cement.

Brit Sarge: I say sir! The men are sinking in quicksand!
Brit Lieutenant: Righty oh then, throw more men into the pit and make a man bridge.

I got stuck in some for 3 hours. S~~~s not funny when your the one in it. That’s beach quicksand and is only a few feet deep. The real bad stuff is in the swamps with lots of water over it. You drop in over your head and are held down to drown.

If you rescue a damsel in distress, all you will get is a distressed damsel.
