Wanted to share my experience at Portland’s comic-con because I see it as my first big trip/outing as a MGHOW. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience. I had a lot of fun and met some of my personal heroes. This is just some of my thoughts from my trip:
-It’s amazing how many girls make money off of being professional cosplayers, and yet there were no male cosplayers there. Do these women actually believe all these guys who are talking to them really care about what they’re saying? It’s obvious all of them just wanted a (half-assed) attempt to get in their pants.
-This was a smaller, more intimate con compared to the likes of NYCC, SDCC, ECCC, etc. I liked that because it there was very little presence from the “Big Two” and more independent publishers.
-Crowd was mostly composed of kids who had seen a couple Marvel films and figured, “What the hell, I’m not doing anything this weekend anyways.” I was saddened to see how many young men were pretty much whipped by their scantily-clad girlfriends/friend-girls into buying them s~~~.
-Met Carrie Fisher. When we were waiting in line, my friend told me she apparently has a reputation of being a bitch to her fans. Took everything I had not to mention that it probably has something to do with not playing a major role since The ‘burbs and that all of her looks had dried up. She was nice enough to use, though. No joke: She grabbed me by my arm and pulled me in closer for our picture. I felt completely awkward.
-Also met Robert Englund (original Freddie Kruger). Awesome guy; he let me put my hand on his throat and pretend like I was strangling him for our photo op.
-Felt really bad for guys like Erik Larsen and Kevin Maguire. Industry LEGENDS that spent most of the con doodling at their desks because the younger attendees couldn’t care less about who they were. They were almost shocked by my admiration of them.
-As I mentioned, it I felt like it was my MGHOW trip, primarily because it’s the first trip I spent a lot of money on myself and didn’t feel bad about it. In the past, when I’ve spent money on things I like, and especially on comic books and related paraphernalia, I’ve always had a sense of guilt. I know it’s irrational, but there’s a sense there that eventually, I’d have a wife and kids and I’d throw all this stuff away anyways because she wouldn’t like it. It’s the first trip where I was able to just enjoy myself and my purchases without thinking about that.
glad you enjoyed it. i hope it’s the first of many.
I bathe in the tears of single moms.
-It’s amazing how many girls make money off of being professional cosplayers …
That is news to me. I did not know they got paid! I am glad you enjoyed yourself.
Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?
Cosplaying is just an excuse for women to dress like sluts.
Portland’s comic-con
I hope you took a stick with you to beat a path through all the hipsters.
The path itself is, of course, optional.
Cosplaying is just an excuse for women to dress like sluts.
And to get attention. Pretty much they ruined it by turning it into an extension of their whoredom.
Agreed. I stopped going after last years Phoenix comic-con. Women dressed like sluts looking for attention all over the place, and Hollywood has also f~~~ed things up big time. Cons used to be a sacred place for comic fans to meet and trade books, get signatures of their favorite writers and artists.. now its a cluster f~~~ of hipsters and sluts all trying to get attention.
As a side note, I met the Blue Power Ranger (the nerdy guy) at that con. All the rangers were there and had huge lines, but his line was f~~~ing empty. I felt sorry for him so i went in his line and he was a nice guy. I am not even a power ranger fan as I am too old for that show. I am more of an 80s Transformers, GI Joes, kind of kid.
Dont get me started on the travesties that michael bay calls Transformers films.
-It’s amazing how many girls make money off of being professional cosplayers,
What the f~~~ is a “professional cosplayer”?
What the f~~~ is a “professional cosplayer”?
(Generally) women who make get paid to show up at cons and sell prints of them dressed up in skimpy outfits to blue-pillers. Basically, they’re kind of like the mascots you see at sporting events but you can actually see their faces and they dress in far less. I guess the more accurate term would be “semi-professional”, but usually either the con will pay for them and their accommodations or an agency will. Either way, it’s stupid and kind of ruining the cons/fandoms because girls know they can get all the attention if they just let it “all hang out”.
If any of you have 15 minutes for a verbal beatdown on the topic, Sargon of Akkad is your man.
It was funny, though, because I felt like I was the only single guy there NOT trying to get with a cosplayer. Yeah, they’re great eye-candy but you know if they’re going out in public like that, they have some sort of daddy issue or something.
