Lost him last night. For those that don’t recognize the name, he was the singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver (as well as having a solo career). Died on his tour bus.
Normally I’m not one to care much for celebrities, but there are some that I really like. He was one of them. He was 48.
I used to hang out at a club in Hollywierd he used to go to. A friend of mine dated him. He was a cool guy.
Peace be with you, you’ve brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people. You will be remembered.
#icethemout; Remember Thomas Ball. He died for your children.
Stone Temple Pilots were a great band from my youth. He’ll be sorely missed.
Strangely, the guitarist from Scotts band also died earlier this year.
From mens reddit. It turns out Scott Weiland was paying 60,000 per month in child support.
Suicide by overdose??? We’ll never know but I bet it is so.
Go your own way or go down the tubes.
Weiland passed away in his sleep on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, according to an official Instagram post. In addition to sharing the news of his death, it read, “At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”
TMZ reported that Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota at around 9 p.m. Thursday night while touring with his current group the Wildabouts. The group was scheduled to perform at the Medina Entertainment Center in Medina, Minnesota Thursday night.

It wouldn’t suprise me, Robin Williams got royally f~~~ed by allimony. That’s one big noose around a stars neck at $60,000 a month.
Sure, they can make big money from album sales and touring but it’s not a consistent income and what they earn has to last them until the next CD release. Record labels will drop a musician like a stone if their latest album tanks in the charts. It’s a cuthroat business.
Found out this morning–not the way to start your day when all we’ve had are mass shootings and bulls~~~ for the past 2 weeks…
When STP got big, I was ‘kinda’ a fan. I was in school and playing music on the side. I really disliked ‘grunge’–thought most of those cats need to learn how to tune up and use deodorant. I’ve since changed my opinion and actually like some grunge now. For the past 2 years, I’ve had a ’90’s’ rock band. We literally could be an STP tribute band, my singer does him to a ‘t’. I’ve become quite a big fan of Scott’s writing, singing and performing. I honestly think he’s one of the best front men to hit the stage in 20 years or so—-he has a very “Jagger-esque” presence and that is saying something. I too have heard the words about him being strangled by alimony and rock star/celebrity or not, I can image that s~~~ can and will take a unmerciful toll on any human being.
I’m sincerely sad to see Scott’s passing. I was really hoping for another Velvet Revolver album/reunion/tour as they were one of the few real rock acts I’ve been able to get excited about in the last few years. Rest in peace and let it roll..
At the time, grunge was a real kick in the arse for the hair band music that was going around at the time. Grunge music literally flipped the whole rock scene sideways.
STP had a great sense of melody. Their first two albums still sound great today, they’re two of my favourite albums of all time along with Soundgaren’s Superunknown. I have some great memories of chilling out with my friends, smoking weed and having fun without a care in the world around those times. A few really f~~~ed up memories too. But those stories are for another time.
Anonymous6Was just listening to Velvet Revolvers albums just last week is what trip me out…
@ Monkeymin d Oh you are 100% dead on. Hair bands had gotten so androgynous and silly they needed to go elsewhere. I was very heavy into guitar oriented instrumental stuff (Steve Morse, Dixie Dregs, Eric Johnson, etc) and had seen and met those guys a bit, so I didn’t get grunge stuff right away.
Celebrities are so much more accessible since the internet, etc. Heck, I was frustrated at work about 2 years ago and asked Pat Travers on facebook if I could drive to Florida and audition. 🙂 🙂 He politely said no, but give me your number–heck that’s better than alot of places I’ve put in an application for. My wackiest idea was to contact Scott Weiland and give him a few ideas I had about forming a band. I think I had the right name..
Yup—part STP and Aliens. I do believe I may have been on to something.. 🙂 🙂
It’s so crazy, because my sister and I were jamming to Velvet Revolver on a trip to go see my dad last week, and we were talking about how we wished they would get back with Scott and make another awesome album. I LOVED Contraband and Libertad. Some of my favorite rock albums EVER, at least in the modern age. They came out when I was in high school (2005ish). Scott’s lyrics got me through a lot of hard times, at least to some degree.
I didn’t know he was paying alimony. No surprise there, though. It’s wild, because I follow him on Instagram (that’s about the only thing I use it for now is to see cool pictures of my favorite musicians). He was appearing pretty happy and having a good time with his solo-career band in concert just days before…and now he’s gone.
I know he went through some drug relapses and that was a huge problem with him trying to join Velvet Revolver (I watched a good documentary on the guys). He cleaned up and was hired on…I think he went in and out on his addictions, though. I read earlier that another band member on the same tour bus he died in was arrested for possession of cocaine. I wonder if Scott’s personal problems may have got the best of him, and he went back to his “demons.” I see a lot of people shaming him, but I can’t help but feel bad for him. He seemed like a genuinely cool guy. One of the few musicians out there I really actually wanted to meet.
I listened to the first couple STP albums a ton when I was a kid/teen.
Weiland was a rock star, attitude and all. What’s surprising is he managed to live this long.
