Do you have retirement plans?
I’m planning to make contributions to my retirement accounts for the next 20 years (and rolling over my 401k to another retirement account when I change jobs). After that, I imagine having a simple life:
Buying a few acres of bare land far away from people, living in an RV, getting a storage building for all my personal stuff, digging a well, and getting a p.o. box for my mail.
I would love to have a lifestyle that’s as worry-free as possible. Basically, my pension would provide enough money for food, gas, cell phone bills, auto insurance, a p.o. box, property taxes, and a few other things. Once a month, I’d drive to the nearest city for supplies, RV maintenance, and entertainment.
It would be so nice to not worry about getting a job and dealing with people’s insanity. I could sit outside on a lawn chair, sip cold beer, read a book, or stare at the hummingbird feeder all day long. I’d have a garden of fresh vegetables and a grove of fruit trees. And I’d have a fire pit so I can roast hot dogs and hamburger patties for dinner.

Sounds like my dream
I f~~~ed up. Had serious medical problem, lost career and given a reduced pension for only serving 23.5 years instead of 25.
Wife stole from, looted, gas lighted, cheated, then divorced me.
House foreclosed at loss despite the fact we put 200k down on it, 70 k on swimming poo; , tile flooring, and landscaping also a total loss, because divorce happened at same time real estate market had once in a century type of crash.
Got desperate and with poor judgment from medical problem and pain killers, combined with stupidity, I Invested it all in solar, lost all 300k after scandal and Chinese tariffs.Live in an apartment, and tend to my health an happiness. Tend to my dogs. Dream of either living the same as you described or building a small, efficient, home out of containers.
We will see. Best of luck, keep us updated!!!
BTW, let me add: After the divorce I lived in a 22ft camper, that I towed behind my jeep Cherokee. Put up a 220w solar panel, and 5 batteries, and really enjoyed living on BLM land (desert) and parks. I really enjoyed it, but it got a little cramped over time with my dogs and limited space, and I made the mistake of starting up with women again… sigh… stupidity again.
But it was nice. If I get the chance to do it again I will, as I look for the spot to settle in. I am thinking about Colorado or maybe even Wyoming, but I would head south in my camper during the winter probably.
Anonymous1Sounds like my dream. Middle of nowhere. Somewhere in the forest with water nearby.
I would like to do the travel around the states at least once when I retire. I am done dealing with people on a daily basis. Very few offer anything of value.
I will say that I’ve always wanted land. Its always been a bit of a pipe dream for me.
As a character says in “Oh Brother Where Art Though”, “you ain’t any kind of man if you ain’t got land”.
Self sufficiency for the win.
Fantastic retirement plans.
I’m in my late 30s, and figure with some luck I have about 20 more years of work until I retire in my mid 50s. The plan is to buy a 40 foot boat and sail the Caribbean for 8 months out of the year. Me, a dog, and any nice piece of beach bunny ass that I can procure. When she starts drama, I just sail into the sunset or make her walk the plank. Lol (I joke)
When I am land bound, I am looking into a piece of rural land that I would like to build a log cabin on. Alternatively, I will live with my sister and nephews in an attempt to guide them in the true nature of women.
Cash will be the primary concern. Assuming that we don’t have an absolute financial meltdown I should be ok. I max out my retirement contribution in a well diversified, dividend paying portfolio. I also have an employer managed pension plan.

I’m digging it.
For me, Just a house and a car. My little check pays for enough, and with me putting enough into the right places I’ll have another source of income hitting so that if things get a little rough, I’ll be prepared. I’m pretty much to my goals as is, but I want a few more things in place before I can call anything complete.
Learn from the past, Control the present, and you will know the Future.
I’m there. I worked two jobs my entire adult life and now at 50 I am reaping what I have sown. The 401K, land, no debt, travel, etc…The next step is the sailboat in the Caribbean for several months out of the year. As I review my preps and life it becomes painfully and I mean painfully obvious that anytime I have let a woman in, or let my guard down, they have spanked me just as they always will. I don’t blame them, I blame me. That is part of the wisdom you acquire as you wind your way through this life.
So…a few suggestions…
Continue to save. Pay off all debts. Do not buy things you do not need.
I researched and looked for over two years before I bought my land to build my cabin. It is very important that you buy the right piece of land. If you want true solitude and security you must look at many properties and use a list of what is important to you before purchasing. Once you find your shangri la buy it. Even if it is raw land you can start improvements immediately. Trust me it always costs more and takes longer than you think.
Ive been working on my cabin for ten years. Stick to the military idea of always improving your position.
Don’t wait. Set a target age and stick to it. If you can punch out earlier because you have accomplished your retirement goals, do it!
Stay in shape. Fat and lazy will not get you where you need to be.
Pump and dump if you must engage with women. Nothing good will come on any LTR. You will lose your land and more than half of your s~~~.
I could go on and on, but that is the jist of it.
It's never to late to be what you might have been...
I live in an expensive high tax state right now, so I definitely don’t plan on staying here for life. Initially after retiring, which I’m shooting to pull off before 40, I’d like to spend some time in South America or Asia. With the lower cost of living it would be easier for me to continue to grow my nest egg in retirement while being able to afford go out to eat and spend more on entertainment since its relatively cheaper there. If I get sick of foreign countries I’d probably buy a decent chunk of land and put a small place to live on it down south or out west, and get a few dogs to keep me company. Big picture though…I just want my life to be stress and drama free.

Pretty much how I see life as well.
My goal is the desert. Small, and I mean small place. Once the solar and well are set up I just have the little matter of getting a big enough greenhouse going to feed myself.
With the homestead established and the veggies growing I’ll hit the road and motorcycle camp for three to six months a year. If I get tired of that rotation I’ll buy a Sprinter or Transit with a high top and kayak and mountain bike my way across the Northwest U.S.
I considered the sailboat route, but financially it may be hard to pull off.
I’m mid-forties so I’ve only got fifty years to get a pond dug to facilitate my viking funeral, it’s illegal on public bodies of water.
I failed to realize in my youth that I was the prize. I was going to work. I was going to earn. Little did I realize that due to feminism, that no longer meant I had to share. Road soon, Desert after.

Too expensive…..
If you’re going to the trouble of clearing some brush and digging a well at that point you might as well put a post and beam structure on it to live in rather than an RV because it’s gonna be way more expensive.
I used to want to do the wilderness thing in the cabin. I did the semi rural/suburban cabin thing while I was living up in Alaska and it was very peaceful.
As far as living in an RV I plan to do that part time when I’m not sailing. However I want to be more nomadic and mobile rather than attached to a well on my own land somewhere. They’re so much BLM land at West not to mention cheap state parks I need a national forests that you can camp in for extended periods. That’s my plan for summer hurricane season if I’m not on land somewhere else traveling in the world. Luckily I have traveled extensively and seeing every single state as well as most of North America besides the uppermost central part of Canada and there’s a lot of great places to see if you have an RV.
My plan is as follows:
Transition into an RV full-time that I will pay cash for in the next two years. Right now I’m paying down debt and becoming cash and carry. Then start saving for a sailboat. When I get the boat i’ll store the RV and I move aboard full-time in a marina about 45 minutes from where I am now for sailing season, do some FL, Bahamas, Caribbean cruising. Still work a bit and run my entertainment business. Corporate season coincides with cruising season in the fall winter spring so I’ll go back-and-forth. Probably pull the boat for hurricane season and head out west to Canada Baja Mexico or wherever I feel like it with my RV for the summer.
When the time is right I’ll start going on longer trips eventually through the Panama Canal to the Galapagos that across the Pacific French Polynesia..maybe circle around to Hawaii that up the Pacific Northwest and Alaska for a summer. Who know!!! That’s the rough sketch I have right now.
The RV/sailboat lifestyle is much cheaper than a house for sure.
Be professional be polite but always have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

That seems like an adventure. It’s been years since I’ve been able to take a long road trip and see the beautiful countryside.

It was. I started in Nevada, stayed in a wildlife reserve in Overton for a few weeks, then went south into Ariz. Went to Austin Texas, and also Houston area, stayed in parks. Then went to New Mexico and bought a annual state park pass. That was the mother load. Lots of state parks where you can stay for free, or $6 a night if you hookup to electricity.
I might do it again, if I get the chance.
A few years ago I decided to move out of the city, so I got a job in a rural city and planned to find somewhere to live. My new employer wanted me to start yesterday so I gave notice and started the new job immediately. only problem was nowhere to live. No problem I’d just camp in the car for a few days until I found a place to rent. good plan until your working 18 hours a day and never see an open real estate agent. at the end of the first week I was no closer to finding a place to live than I had been at the start and drove back (3 Hours) to the burbs for the weekend.this continued for a few weeks and things weren’t going well with the new employer so I didnt rush into finding somewhere to live.I didn’t want to get stuck in a town without a job. Weeks became months and I spent two years living out of my car camping in the local forest during the week driving back to the wife in the burbs at weekends.finally bit the bullet and bought a house nearer work. point is now back to house and wife on a daily basis and realised i’d never been happier than when i was basicly living as a homeless bum.My future plans are way different to what they used to be and I found MGTOW by accident.
GPS Navislut. Great just what I need, a computerised bitch telling me where to go..
