At this point in my life my resume barely fits on two pages.
Should I:
Let it slide to 3 pages?
Cut out some of my accomplishments?
Remove everything older than 15 years, as some say?
Next,
Should I hire a professional resume writer?
I have seen job ads that specificaly say ” no professionally written resumes”
Any thoughts welcome.

Jan, I took an entry level position 27 years I can’t advise you on resumes but if you get called in for an interview you should do 2 things act like it won’t disappoint you if your not offered the position, and never bash a previous employer. Just say you outgrew the position. Good luck bro.
"You can either love women or understand them, you can't do both". Truth over everything
My resume is 1-1/2 to two pages. I customize it to highlight the experience most relevant to whatever position I am applying for. The last time I made a transition, I sent out 2 or 3 resumes, un-solicited, to companies I KNEW could use my skillset. One called me in for an interview and hired me.
If they like what they see, they will often do a telephone interview, and if they’re still happy they’ll call you in for an in-person interview. At least, that’s what I’ve seen in recent years.
So my advice, is a FOCUSED job search.
When I have been engaged in hiring, I have disliked long resumes. Often they make me think the person will want a lot of money or is pretentious or wants to be a manager.
I would put in the most recent experience AND any experience that is most RELEVANT to the job duties you expect in the new position.
A good cover letter works well with a resume too.
Depending what you’re applying for ,yeah, the more info the better so page counts don’t really matter.
As for doing it with a pro (you’re resume that is,lol)
I’ve found it really doesn’t matter unless you are REALLY bad at writing one up.Lifes a bitch, but you don't have to marry one!
Let it slide to 3 pages?
Yeah, mine’s like 9 pages long, and I don’t usually go too long between jobs.
Occasionally I get asked why it is so long and I tell them that you never know which technologies may be applicable, so I put them all in there.
That’s all the explanation even needed. Of course it depends on your profession – I’m in IT, so it makes sense. If your experience is one job after another waiting tables, then they will get the idea at 2 or three pages and that’s probably all you need.
If the kind of jobs your going for require a *really* broad range of skills (like IT) then the more the merrier. If not, then respect their time.
"Data, I would be delighted to offer any advice I can on understanding women. When I have some, I'll let you know." --Captain Picard,
I work in a high level management position and am targeting the next stage, possibly C-level. 2-3 page resumes are not unusual for those types of positions. A professional resume writer may help, but many of them are bulls~~~. I was lucky and had the opportunity to have mine dissected by a professional trade magazine and then rebuilt as part of a ‘how to’ article.
Reconstruct the accomplishments each time to be as close to what is being looked at for the position, focused with any relevance to the industry you are looking for… that may help.
No longer can we walk away, we must run. Remove the motive power.
