The beauty of the Trump tax cut is that it helps start the process for destroy the hold the civil servant class has over the country.
The cap on SALT deductions at $10,000 dollars is to low for high tax states. One of the main reasons these states have high taxes is the civil servant class rules those states. The civil servant class increases their wealthy by increasing taxes on the working men.
Beforehand the civil servants were able to use SALT deductions to cast off the cost of these taxes to the Federal government, leaving the rest of the country to pay the difference while not having SALT deductions.
Now with the SALT cap we are going to see the collapse of these high tax states go more quickly as on one end the civil servants are going to demand high taxes to pay for the difference in what the civil servants pay in taxes while what is left of the working class if forced to flee those states because they can no long survive on the pay they have.
The costs of the civil servants’ benefits are what’s crushing most States’ and the Fed. gov’t budgets… Doubtful any of the unions would agree to a backdated cut to real return rates, but who knows.
Benefits for many state and city jobs are sky high. That’s not to say we don’t appreciate the work of people in jobs such as policeman and firefighters and teachers and others. But there’s a limit to how much a given state can afford. In Wisconsin their governor, Scott Walker, saw this and worked it out. I believe even Christ Christie did this too, to an extent with teachers. Other cities and states have not. Taxpayers will vote with their feet and move. States can’t afford to go bankrupt, no pun intended. It isn’t necessary. Painful changes will have to be made.

It would be near impossible to do in blue States. The unions are just too powerful. Plus, you have democratic gov’s in NY/NJ/CT/CA who would cave on a strike instead of arrest them and break the strike. After all, Gov. Cuomo wants to run for Pres. in 2020. He’ll need the support of the massive unions for that to even have a chance.

Civil servants are like bacteria. If not subject to natural control, they will consume the entire Earth.

They will have to change eventually. I live in a high tax New England state. What I see happening rather frequently is that when people retire, those with money leave the state(or at least buy a second place to claim residency and avoid state income/property taxes) to a lower tax state. I’ve had many friends from high school and college that moved to lower tax states. I’ve had many coworkers take jobs in lower tax states. We’ve lost some large businesses in the last few years all moving to lower tax states. Who the hell wants to stay here and pay around 6k a year in property taxes for a modest house, a roughly 5% effective income tax rate depending where your income falls, and a sales tax when you can move to a state and all those things are a lower rate or non existent. Tax receipts aren’t going up due to growth, they only go up when taxes get raised or new taxes/fees created…which just perpetuates the cycle of people/businesses leaving.
The thing is, for the average working person, you do not benefit much from state government. Three of the larger line items on my states budget this year will be state worker pensions(joke pension “fund” that isn’t funded), welfare programs, and interest to service existing debt(while still running major deficits so this problem gets worse and worse each year). What do I lose by moving to a lower tax area? Odds are the lower tax state just has a less generous pension program, less welfare spending, and less existing debt…all things I’d rather not finance to begin with.
I’m hoping some of these states implode under Trump’s watch so we have someone in charge who is going to say look, this s~~~ isn’t sustainable and now we are going to do something about it, rather than having more of the cancer spread to Washington where the “solution” becomes more government…because somehow jackasses think the cure for a broken government is more broken government.

Texas has had a large population growth in part due to the low(er) taxes. No state income tax is part of that. Yes there is a sales tax though. When will these people figure it out? The more taxes one piles on people the worse it is overall? Geez. It’s not like I’m rich either, I can’t imagine paying more money on my modest income.
Travis As of yet Oklahoma stands alone against my God who will stand up and say his sons private right of travel was tossed very gently into the states hands and they failed to protect it.
Now To let it blow up in my home state also and test this republic state by state for the presence of a republic.

His Benefits had just been approved the year he died.

religion called socialism. It has rewarded me with poverty at the hands of federal regulations.worse than poverty it has paid me with debt created in agencies where the only valuable product they create is a look of confusion when you ask to inspect their product.

It seems all tied to who I am personally and being who I want to be. The authorities want to identify me as someone they automatically by default setting have unlimited authority over.
By changing my signature I become someone very different.

The fix is one man taking it all on. They say the measure of a man is his willingness to take on responsibility.
