I understand the economic factors, but rental cars seem to be getting very pricey… anyone else seeing this if you travel for work?

Most cities really pass whopping taxes/fees on rental cars. Because they just can. Residents do not mind so much because dealer loaners for accidents/repairs aren’t the same thing as actual rental cars for nonresidents temporarily in the area. So regular locals don’t get dinged so they don’t care. That, and they have so many tiers/categories of vehicles many that aren’t that special are classified as higher tier, more expensive rentals.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Rental cars are a ripoff. Period.

I knew someone who bought a cheapo out of a small ad, drove it for a few weeks, then took it into a scrapyard. Cheaper than renting and much less hassle.

    That’s clever thinking.

Car rentals primarily target businesses, which tend to have more money to throw around than individuals. Sorry but, you’re not the target demographic.

At <exotic venue redacted>, I took public transportation where I could and walked where I couldn’t. Yeah, it smelled like feet and sweat, but 10 minutes of personal discomfort saved me 2 hours of walking and gave me time to actually do stuff.

My employer used to occasionally send me out to deal with clients and they footed the bill for the car. I’m in a position where that is no longer a job requirement, but I’ve watched the “reimbursement” notes every year and the amount they reimburse per diem has gone up about $5 a year.

I do take public transport as well, when I can, but this trip requires an hour drive from the hotel… sucks..

Around here, some of the used car lots will rent you a car for cheaper than the national chains.
