A few days ago, I finally got fed up enough with my leaking bath tub faucet to see what I could do to fix it. I was kind of intimidated by the prospect because I was afraid that I would have to tear the tile out of the wall to deal with the problem. I looked up stuff on the internet until I found a YouTube video that demonstrated just how easy it was to do. Turns out all I had to do was turn off the water main to the house and disassemble the shower valve under the handle. All I had to replace was the “cartridge”. I actually took me more time to go to Home Depot and buy the part than it did to take it apart and put it back together. All in all, a fairly easy task to do.

Some of us here aren’t the most mechanically inclined. Some of us are better at mathematics, etc. My brother is one of those guys. He can do calculus equations in his head, but don’t even try to talk to him about the inner workings of a pickle jar. But, my brother is exceptionally intelligent. He would be at least classified as at least brilliant, but he couldn’t operate a hammer to save his life. Me, I remodeled the guest bathroom. I took the entire thing down to the studs and concrete foundation, and built a shower stall from scratch and finished the outside with glass block.

Where did I lean to do all of this? Books and the internet.

My favorite hobby has always been woodworking. When I was married I would read books and practice techniques. If I read something or saw a video once or twice I could almost always do it on the first try. I once built a corner plant stand using design and construction techniques from an article I had finished reading. It took me about two days (six hours total) to finish the project. The weird thing was that my ex-wife would ask me how I learned to do things like that, I would respond by telling her I read a book or article. He response was this strange mixture of confusion, and the same odd disbelief you would associate with someone that wanted to cry “Witch Craft!”

I’m pretty sure that I was more intelligent than her. I would say at least one standard deviation to the right (more). She knew this, but she would still quasi freak out when I was able to do something by just reading about it. This was before YouTube.

Have any of you guys experienced this?

Come to think of it, no woman ever cared enough to ask…

But it makes sense- I wouldn’task my shovel how it learned how to be such an efficient shovel. Or my lawnmower how it learned to cut the grass.

See where I’m going with this?

Ahh yes, do I recall times like that with my xw. I am one of those build and repair custom pc kinda nerds since winblows 95 hit the scene. A problem solving and figure out a plan kind of guy, I guess would describe me best, in laymans terms.

She never ceased to blow my mind on using any chance (even when one was not present) to try and make me look like some kind of fool or idiot. So, back when I was stupid and played into the game, I would use this long suit to try and “prove” I wasn’t.

The fact that we both knew she could count on me should have been enough to even keep this from being a “thing” that would be an ongoing source of tension, arguments, etc. for almost 8 yrs.

In short, many times I would say something that she would basically shoot down as me being an idiot or playing the fool….only to have one of her friends or her mom say basically the same thing at a later point in time.

Of course, then she would be like, they are so right, or worse, act like it was her idea/plan that she came up with, and would use it as another reason on why I should listen to her since she is right and I am wrong…

That was one of her main ways of freaking out (dealing) with it. It was seldom that I would actually get credit, but when I did, it was usually in public settings to make her look good for backing up her man BS.

Sad part is it worked. Guys would be like, “Wow dude, you have a trophy wife, etc”. She knew how to get attention at my expense, and oh how they would praise her. I swear I would hear her cream herself over it.

Sometimes they would go on about her, even after she had walked away, and I would tell them, yeah “Well, try living with her”.

I’ve really been enjoying this “reflections on my ex wife’s bulls~~~” series, Medic.

I hope that you’ll keep them up.

It’s a bit like picking up a book a chapter at a time, and I’ve looked forward to each sequel.

    Good stuff man.

Good one MD. I think you may have started a trend here, as I’m tempted to write my own “Reflections on my current wife’s bulls~~~ #1” that might just keep me going until “current” inevitably becomes “ex”.
But, to answer your question, it did happen to me many times. But, as Age said, in private she almost resents me for being able to do it, while at the same time expecting everything to just magically get fixed/built/fabricated. In public however, she complements the s~~~ out of HER husband (i.e. “Look what I have girls! Look what I can control with my magic vagina remote.”)

But, since my red pill, only what I want gets fixed or built, so now, she is bending over backwards to compliment me on how creative and resourceful I am while saying f~~~ all in public. Ironic in a f~~~ed up way, that the compliments I was desperately waiting for in my Blue pill days are only coming now when I couldn’t care less.

The answer is NO. “I could but I won’t”. Memini murum!

Everything from top to bottom. This whole thing. It’s like you were there with me.

Our ex wives could be related. Or, at least, attended the same training camp.

Women instinctively know that if they don’t know how to do something, manipulate a man into doing it for them.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

    @soldier-medic,
Those are some serious chops. My hat is off to you.

Yes, my sister, my XGFs, and other women friends put their sights on me when they need something fixed around the house. For Sis, I actually deliver if it’s within my limited skill set.

Great post and I could add a fair few examples as I am also very good with my hands, Only thing at school the doctrine i was really any good at was maths and science but in some way I think the men that turn away from ‘full on’ schooling tend to be the ones that are good at turning the mind to fixing every day life things as they have not been trained to think a certain way only imo, women do know this and will use men as they see fit. I havent come across any every day things I cant get my head around and fix from a Computer to anything built or within our homes and cars, If something new comes in to my life i make it a high priority to understand as much as i can about it, a males mind just wants to know,I tried to get the x wife interested it was a complete waste of time they dont care as long as its working and have someone that will fix it, strange humans i cant understand the lack of wanting the knowledge myself.

I was married twice over the course of my life. Yes, that makes me doubly stupid, and twice as mental.

I can really relate to this post, particularly with my first wife.

There was no Internet (well there was, but it wasn’t common and it certainly hadn’t trickled in to my neck of the woods), but I lived at the library.

I put my first wife through business school, while putting my own education on the backburner. She really began to develop an elitist attitude, believing herself to be smarter each and every day, and would lord this over me; at the time I was a high school dropout. But I was very far from stupid.

The calibre of “friends” that she used to bring home would consistently reinforce this nonsense. She was the “educated wise new world woman” and I was this “blue collar slob”. It used to astonish me that these people thought you could be trained to be smart. They didn’t realize that school doesn’t make you smart. You’re either smart or your not, and education is just access to further knowledge. They constantly found ways to reference me as stupid, or the dumb, muscle-laden lout who makes a good pack mule.

We were only married two years, but once she had completed her education (at my expense) she left me, and went off into the big bad world, believing that she was now some high-calibre, high-powered soon to be business tycoon. Little did she realize, much like @soldier-medic‘s post, she was wholly incapable of actually DOING anything or understanding it for that matter.

The last time I was ever in contact with her was over twenty years ago, and she had failed miserably. After all of her education and “becoming smart”, she ended up as a low-scale purchaser for a public school. Yep. Four years of business school and she buys f~~~ing pencils for brats hahahahahahahahaha. I’ll bet she has nine cats, because school also managed to not teach her how to not be socially retarded either.

I’ve found that most men I’ve met in my life have the “inclination” to pick things up, learn methods of completing a task, and mastering it very quickly. Sometimes the brilliant ones, who don’t seem to have any mechanical inclination or the like, are only suffering from a lack of confidence in performing a repair or the even more important quality of all trades: “TROUBLESHOOTING”.

Women can’t troubleshoot for s~~~, they immediately become flustered by it. Some intelligent men seem to be this way as well, but I really believe that’s a lack of confidence; for some it might stem from treatment from their father or mother or the like.

But I once heard a statement, and I can’t remember who actually said it, but the quote has stuck with me for life:

“If one man can do it, all men can do it”. This is of course a very generalized statement, but I think there is power and truth behind it.

With the vast information network and resources we now have at our disposal, men are more powerful than ever. The dissemination of information has become a self-driven endeavor, rather than a state or government sponsored one, and we now have as much or as little information as we like at our instant disposal. Some will choose to learn, others won’t.

And that in and of itself is a beautiful strike against feminism. WOMEN have all of this same information at their disposal. All of the things which they say have been held back from them over the centuries (things mechanical, things engineering, things science, things you name it) are perfectly at their disposal for them to learn how to “DO IT”. And guess what? They STILL DON’T.

They have access to everything that we do and more, and what have they done with this dissemination of information? Not…………..a…………….f~~~ing…………..thing.

They continue to prove that not only are they wholly incompetent………..they are absolutely, incredibly f~~~ing LAZY.

(PS I know of this cartridge change you speak of. I’ve done it several times myself, and believe it or not, most of the time, all one has to do is change the rubber pancake seal at the top (or bottom, depends how you’re viewing it) of the cartridge (the one seated in there with either a common or phillip’s screw), and that sucker is good to go again. This is the case with the traditional brass ones, but you might well have one of those Chinese white metal ones, covered in cheap chrome. Those seem to be the standard now. It’s a great 0.30 cent fix!)

Her resentment was off the charts for certain…loved busting my b~~~~ with it.

Damn Straight! Magic vagina remote! Exactly her attitude. You and Soldier-Medic and myself all were married to the same woman,
