Moving into doing a bit of work in motion graphics / video advertising type stuff and PC needs a bit of a boost ram wise. I know bugger all about what I’m doing so would like a bit of advice. No gaming or ultra fast access required.
I currently have 2 x 4gig and 2 slots spare, ram type is DDR3.
Am I able to stick either another 2 x 4’s or maybe 2 x 8gigs in the other slots?
I just need desktop type DDR3 with a decent speed rating right?Never fuck a crazy chick.
yes, you can insert RAM in the other slots. buy a couple of DDR3, and you should be good to go.
MGTOW is not a movement, it is a way of life.
Just to be extra safe you should look up the make/model of your system or motherboard if you built it yourself to confirm the right type. Or look up the existing RAM you have. Fortunately modern PCs are generally more forgiving than they used to be.
The two important things you want to know, are how many pins you PC wants on the RAM (most desktops are 204 these days), and what speed the memory is designed for. Usually the speed is in MHz or they have certain “standards” now that are listed like ” PC3-12800″.
Once you confirm those things for your system you should be good to go.
Check the existing memory. Note type, and speed. You can get two more sticks of memory identical to the current memory. Getting faster memory will do no good as the computer will run at the speed of the slowest memory. Make sure your computer is running an OS which is 64-bit. 99% sure you are.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
Anonymous18Note type, and speed.
In case of your current RAM, pop one from the slot. Once you confirm its (DDR3, 1600MHz) now is a good time to upgrade. Plenty of sales going for the holiday season.
What you want to be find out is the Max RAM supported by your motherboard. If its anything decent within last 2-3 years 16GB should be doable.
Now the trick here is to not mix 4 with 2 or 8 with 4 or any other combination. You want to evenly split the two RAM sticks in equal (8 and 8GB) with the same make/model to prevent any bottleneck/interference/less than optimal performance. Check Ebay for Samsung DDR3, they were going pretty cheap (~30-40) for 8GB sticks.
It goes without saying but working with graphics you need a decent Solid State Drive (I am sure you know). I recently upgrade an old Black Macbook (still looks good) with a SSD and it flies with 3GB of RAM (DDR2) for general browsing and word processing.
thanks guys. Will get to work and see what I can suss out.

I have 2 of these salvaged from a junker,if it will work next to the other 2 it will double my ram for $0
possible? as far as I understand it looks ok?Never fuck a crazy chick.
All right with the information provided I do consult on this for a living so we can tailor it to your needs with the least amount of effort.
Memory needs.
•The DDR3 1600 MHz compatible with the board is the most common and cheapest form of RAM right now. In your instance bigger is better than faster. Any type of digital rendering uses massive amounts of RAM.
•This requires 64-bit programming language for windows or lynx this is important as you need it to use more than 4 GB worth of RAM.Video needs
•Secondly it is more to have a video card that is GTX or GTX+ as the shaders are the things that will be doing most of the work rather than a GPU.
•This also can be obtained these days by using SLI or crossfire for older cards. With Nvidia video cards it is now possible to designate a random or independent video card for PhysX which uses 3-D construction and rendering control used by the Nvidia video cards.Budgeting
•There are lots of programs now that do what you’re asking on linux Ubuntu or Mint 64.
•Remember faster is not better in this instant you don’t have to get the newest or the fastest thing out there as long as is compatible with your motherboard it is fine under the stated guidelines above.
•If you have an Nvidia video card learn about PhysX because these days even a old video card sitting in your closet can help increase your productivity despite its incompatibility with SLI.If you have any more questions place a message on Facebook “Cheeky Industries”.

If you’re low on dough, going from 4 to 8 GB will be a huge difference, even if you don’t go all the way to 16. I run 3D software a lot, and even some pretty big stuff and real pig software (Poser on Windows 7, 4 CPUs) doesn’t ask for more than about 5 or 6 at the outside.

First you would need to tell us what kind of work you will be doing. What program? length of the projects (in terms of time and perhaps even size if you know)?
Perhaps you even can send us to a youtube link where you can show us what is you are expecting to make.
Depending on the work, the PC might need more or less power.
No offence guys, but giving advice before you know what it is for is kinda pointless :D.
Anonymous6Its always best to go to the manufacturer of your motherboards web sight for the approved ram brand, type & speed. Also you want to buy them in a pair if your going to use them two slots. To be safe buy the same kind you already have in the other two slots. Last but not at higher speeds some motherboards have problems with using 3 or more slots, may force you to down clock. Probably best to buy 2 x 8gig or 2 x 16gig fast sticks to replace the two you already have(sell them on ebay).
Thanks for the advice guys. will do some experimenting this weekend and see what happens. Thankfully the projects I’m working on are quite short. Ads mostly under 15sec.
Most importantly I have one of these to go on the front of the case. That’s real class there 😀Never fuck a crazy chick.
