    Hi everyone,
Wanted to an opinion or two besides my own.
A little background, I am a member of an international, let’s call it a sports federation, for these past years. An article was brought to my attention from one of the “elders”, the gist of which was, that no matter what life throws at you, you must keep practicing and remain a member of the organization, or else you are a quitter. He also blames the younger generation of suffering more of this quitter syndrome then his generation (so who’s fault is it really), and points fingers at this age of instant gratification. My take away is that he is attempting to shame people into staying and not to dare try something else. Any thoughts? am i seeing shaming tactics everywhere!? 😀

Depends…it used to be that a coach would tell you “A quitter never wins and a Winner never quits”. That kind of “Stick to it until you get where you want to be” tactic is a good lesson for growing up. If, however, one gets themselves into something that they decide is truly not for them, and they aren’t just quitting because the going got rough, then walk away. No point in continuing if your heart isn’t into it. If the younger generation are quitting more, it’s because they most likely were coddled and don’t know and have never learned that nothing good in life comes easy.

Where I come from, in the military, we hate quitters. Why start if you are just going to quit? There was nothing worse then *being* a quitter in my former ranks. The military is a bit different then the civvie world though….

    Shaming, most definitely.

There is no shame in quitting something that is causing you abuse – physically or mentally.

If I stop playing lacrosse because of physical limits should I be ashamed?

    How about quitting smoking?

What if I stop doing something to pursue another interest?

Most “shamers” have a superiority complex over who they are shaming.

Who really cares if someone quits? Its their life they can do whatever they want. Opinions r like assholes IDGAF everyone has them.

However I agree that millennials are the most coddled generation ever..with the attention span of a neurotic child.

Most in this world want the credit/rewards without the blood, sweat, and tears to accomplish anything.

“Shaming” runs rampant in our society. Really theres nothing wrong with quitting something if its not right for you. But you have no right to bash or “shame” those who stick it through to the end. If its a passion drive then quitting anything hurt you the most because you CLAIMED to love whatever it was.

My personal opinion is, if you commit to something, you should give it all you’ve got. Quitting anything come down to either being completely spent, understanding success is literally impossible OR that the you’ve been set up to fail.

Quit if you want.. But make sure its for the right reasons. Dont ever let, “its too hard” be one of them. You’ll only have regret afterwards.

    My two cents.

not wanting to quit a horrible situation put me into a worse horrible situation.

the woman I met in 1995 was definitely not even a pump and dump type. I had no business being with her other than we had compatible body parts and we were both lonely and broken. I think we were each other’s missing piece for the short term. that we made it for so long was sheer willpower and perseverance. how much of her s~~~ could i take. I could take it right up to the point when I couldn’t.

But what if you start something and realize you just don’t like it?

I’ve caused myself emotional and physical pain in the past by not quitting things that have been bad for me.

“A quitter never wins and a Winner never quits”.

That’s true if you face something that is possible, and worth to to win for you. See, one gets easier struck by lightning then to find the perfect girlfriend. And is it worth to win even then? Love is a hard drug, even worse, creates addiction, makes you be nonsense, costs you at least six figures over your life, and your happiness depends on the mood of someone else. I’d still prefer a sex doll and a bottle of whiskey in the fridge.

MGTOW of course are constantly shamed and attacked for running away from relationships/marriage/women.

This is tantamount to shaming the population of Tokyo for fleeing when Godzilla and King Gidora are f~~~ing up the city. Who in their right mind wouldn’t flee a catastrophe?

If quitting bad s~~~ is wrong, I don’t wanna be right!

But if it is something worthwhile that is good for you, persistence is the number 1 thing required to achieve it. So it all depends on the situation.

These things live on dues, fees and the ability to sell some merchandise. It sounds like it is at that tipping point where a few people “quit” and the whole thing is over. Along with having enough members to hold events.

In the car community these things pop up thrive for a year or two then die. When the SX4 came out, web site, events all over the place, clubs here and there. Now you would be lucky if you find two people who think their club still exists.
