I am having trouble locating sources I had earlier bookmarked regarding the role of women in alcohol prohibition in the United States.

An objection that was raised to my argument was that the 18th amendment (prohibition) was passed before the 19th (women voting).

Any primary sources or reputable secondary sources (e.g. scholarly works) available for me to read online would be appreciated.

I suspect most of the information you can find would be written by feminists, but keep us apprised. Could be interesting.

I hope i read this correctly 🙂 So they pulled the whiskey right before letting women vote ? That didn’t do any good ! They are still voting for hillary. On a side note, I would think women would hate alcohol being banned. Afterall they love to get wasted and f~~~ anything with a pulse. Or if they are a single mom, they will drink their wine and pop their benzodiazepines til the cows come home.

I believe it was the women’s sufferagest party that put the pressure on.

Temperance movements have had a long history in the US prior to the 18th Amendment, even predating the formation of the US. Maine, for example, enacted statewide prohibition as early as 1846 while other states, counties, cities, towns, and whatnot enacted and repealed various levels of prohibition off and on during the century before the 18th passed.

Suffrage did not lead to Prohibition, because the former occurred after the latter. The 18th’s ratification process began in 1917 while the 19th, although first introduced in the 1870s or 1880s IIRC, wasn’t sent to the states until 1919. Whether they could vote for for pro-temperance candidates on the federal level or not, women did support temperance in greater numbers than men while also agitating and lobbying for Prohibition through a variety of what we would call pressure groups.

While not directly linked, Suffrage and Prohibition were most definitely casually linked. Both were important goals and victories for the era’s so-called Progressive Movement. Also, and perhaps more importantly, suffrage was usually opposed by the same people opposing prohibition because it was thought, correctly, that women would vote for prohibition if they gained the vote.

That last bit is probably why people believe new women voters passed Prohibition.

The temperance movement had ties to Feminism however it was not started by women. The temperance movement was originally started by Christian preachers in order to get America back to its Christian roots (like the modern cuckservatives of today).

They simply used women as an excuse to ban liquor because men spent more on booze then their wife so if booze was banned then their wife would have a higher class of living being able to buy more fancy things.

The preachers also used crime and men beating their wives as an excuse to ban liquor. So prohibition does have ties with Feminism especially early feminism it was started by the Christians.

It was started by the pastor’s wives manipulating them to promote prohibition.

There’s no need to research, it was mainly women against alcohol.
Women always loved prohibiting men from drinking alchol.
Every MGHOW who had been married knows it.
    Proof, nowadays:
5 May 2016, India – “women’s rights activists” (aka: feminists) lobbying (successfully) for banning alcohol

Women in India have forced prohibition on to the political agenda as they blame alcohol sales for a big rise in domestic violence and rape in the region
