Qualcomm Files Lawsuit Seeking To Ban Sale And Manufacture Of iPhones In China: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-10-13/qualcomm-files-lawsuit-seeking-ban-sale-and-manufacture-iphones-china

I am not sure where to post this, but I believe political corner is best.

What this article is about is Qualcomm makes the chips for Apple’s Iphones. Now, the worm has turned and Apple is learning what it means to make a deal the red dragon.

The lawsuit no only seeks the ban to sell Iphones in China, but also the manufacturing of Iphone in China. Apple’s Iphones are manufactured in China.

This lawsuit will cut off no only the Chinese billion person market, but cause a supply problem for Apple. As of right now, Apple lives or dies by their smartphone sells.

While the article did not state this, it is possible if Apple loses the lawsuit, the court could also ban Apple from exporting Iphone’s produced in China to the outside world.

That being said, I have no sympathy for Apple. Years ago, they tried to use the courts to ban other companies from selling smartphones.

Apple is learning a rule that globalism ignores. That lesson being that the foreign, potentially hostile nation to your home nation, invites you to move you manufacturing to their nation. The foreign nation learns all about how you build you product.

The foreign nation subsidizes their own company to product those same products more cheaply, in some cases a better quality of that product, put the original company out of business.

This has happened a number of times in history. That cheap labor means s~~~ if a company’s factories are closed and the company is banned from manufacturing and selling their product.

And it cost money to build another factory and equipment. I doubt China will lead Apple export the factory equipment Apple has been using out of China. That makes creating a new factory even more expensive.

Due to other events in the world, I believe this is a timed lawsuit. The risk of political blowback from the U.S. over this is small, given that Apple is in bed with a lot of the current president’s political enemies.

This is likely only the start.

China clearly has plans that run counter the globalists.

Also, do not lead the North Korean issue distract you. Look to the South China Sea. Indochina and the Malay Archipelago are the prize. China and these areas are where much of the manufacturing of products take place.

All the gold and wealth in the world do not mean s~~~ if that cannot be transacted into manufacturing.

If China was able to conquer those areas, much of the global economic dynamic would shift in China’s favor.

Exactly! I think the good old days are over for Apple. Android now controls 85% of the cell phone OS market, Apple has 14.5% and the rest goes to Blackberry etc.

Apple relies on the iPhone for over 136 billion in sales for fiscal year 2016. Sales peaked in 2015. /Forbes Magazine June issue page 25./

Those that own Apple would likely rather do just about anything else than build a factory in middle American to employ U.S. citizens whom are not coastal progressives.

Apple would likely turn to South Korea, whom are a first world technological nation.

    Excellent and insightful commentary.

Can’t blame companies for wanting to make a profit, but you can blame them for being stupid.

The home of Samsung. I suspect the China/SK relationship gave birth to the Galaxy line of smartphones./They are eating Apples lunch./ Plus Google knows how to play. /Now known as Alphabet./

Apple has a lot of cash, but the innovator is dead and they still don’t “play well” with others. I would not take a long position in Apple.

    Thank you.

You ever heard the term ‘selling the sizzle and not the steak’? (Selling on flash and not substance.) Well, these shortsighted companies are banking on the ‘sizzle’ and not the ‘steak’.

The home of Samsung. I suspect the China/SK relationship gave birth to the Galaxy line of smartphones./They are eating Apples lunch./ Plus Google knows how to play. /Now known as Alphabet./

Good point. But, except for Germany, there is not many places they can go with the technical expertise for equipment.

Apple has a lot of cash, but the innovator is dead and they still don’t “play well” with others. I would not take a long position in Apple.

Apple has a lot of cash banked in various nations as tax shelters. But, a lot of governments know this. Also, Apple pays their factories workers what some would consider slave wages, their customer service is almost s~~~, and they sell their products at to high a price.

This is a train wreck waiting to happen.

Agreed. It will drag on for quite a while as they burn through the cash and pay some out in dividends. The genius is gone. I would rather take a position in Alphabet. /But. Not at these levels as stocks need to go “on sale” before I would take a long term position./

before I would take a long term position.

At this point the ‘long term position’ could be, get out while you still can.

The manufacturing of an iPhone can be fully automated. You could make the phone in Brazil, Thailand or even California.
