I’ve been reading “Street Poison”, a biography of Iceberg Slim. “Slim” or Robert Beck, was a very successful and notorious pimp during the 40s and 50s in Chicago. During his last prison bid, he decided to retire from pimping as he was getting too old for the physical demands. He moved to LA, became a salesman, shacked with some slattern long enough for her to become his common-law wife, she s~~~ out three daughters for him, and encouraged him to start writing.

Beck began writing at what was a perfect time for his books. The civil rights movement had just kicked off with books by Cleaver and Malcolm X were chart toppers, so Beck’s autobiographical “Pimp” fit right in. After his autobiography, Beck wrote a number of novels and short stories based on the street life he’d witnessed and lived. Many were eventually made into films.

Beck is probably best known now as the “grandfather” of the “gangsta” nonsense which currently infects rap, hip hop, and most other parts of the dysfunction which passes for African-American “culture”. Many early rappers took names referring to Beck’s “Iceberg Slim” pimp persona, a practice later rappers would follow without knowing actually why.

Getting back to the passage in “Pimp” that caught my eye, in 1942 Beck was released from prison after serving a term for pimping. His first attempts at pimping had been laughably inept but, as always happens, he learned in prison from more experienced pimps where he had gone wrong and what he should do.

Accordingly, he starts stalking various clubs looking for a whore he can physically coerce into becoming his “bottom” woman. In a pimp’s stable, the “bottom” woman is essentially a straw boss slave; she recruits and keeps all the other whores in line while being kept in line herself by the pimp. Using what he learned in prison, Beck spotted a likely candidate and then began the process of controlling her:

“According to his autobiography, he first hit on her with one of the poisonous pimp monologues that he had memorized while in prison. Essentially a string of stylized insults and come-ons, the rundown is designed to manipulate a would-be prostitute by using a combination of verbal abuse and sexual innuendo to knock her off balance.”

A memorized series of insults and come-ons mixing verbal abuse and sexual innuendo to knock her off balance.

What is that if not the “negs” so beloved of the PUA pussy beggar?

Another passage is equally illuminating:

“The second rule Beck had learned was that the pimp had to project an image of glamour and success in order to offset the cruel rundown. Combining flash and front with physical and mental abuse was the way that the pimp attracted women; it was this “kick and kiss” ritual that defined the pimp-prostitute relationship.”

Flash and front? Projecting an image? Mystery method anyone?

PUAs are pimps. They employ the methods of pimps, not to procure women for other men, but to procure women for themselves.

Go your own way. Women will be there or they won’t. It doesn’t matter either way.

In my books – pussy is available either to the nice/resourceful/gentleman that women project (but never f~~~) as their ideal Mr Perfect.

Or it is available to men who are pimps/PUAs/whatever you call – a man who has learned to get vagina without outright begging for it.

PUAs make more effort than vagina is worth. But they are far better at recognizing a vagina’s worth more than the blue pilled simps who wait for a the right woman to come along because they believe they are nice hence making them a catch.

I agreed. I have taught these techniques for years since the 1980s but they were for rapport building, better networking, or dealing with angry customers. If you lacked social skills I would mentor individuals to help them get along better.
I have never seen them used (until now) as something like how to be a total douche bag just to manipulate and get a f~~~. Like a hammer you can pound a nail or kill someone with it. Killing was not what a hammer was intended for. PUA’s really make me sick.

Old Bill – fantastic post. I really enjoy what you bring to the table.

It makes sense that PUA are just using skills utilized by pimps. What it boils down too is social interaction and manipulation. The PUA is just manipulating females for personal sex, while the pimp is manipulating them for sex and profit. Same thing, just shifted further down the spectrum.

Sex is just sex. Vagina is placed on a pedestal by most men. It is only worth a set price – in either time or money. Anything more and it does not meet the opportunity/cost equation. To make the focus of your life pussy, as PUA do is just plain sad.

Bit by bit this fact is seeping into the social unconscious of men. I have noticed that among the younger generation of males (<25), few are as blue pill as the generation before. They have few f~~~s to give concerning females. Most are not willingly subscribers to the family man gig – a few get caught with oops pregnancies. When male birth control is released in a few years I think the balance of power will switch drastically.

The Beck biography just keeps getting more and more fascinating.

I found it quite telling that pimps of Beck’s era used the term “game” in exactly the same manner PUAs today do.

Here’s quote from Beck concerning a pimp’s “bottom bitch”. That’s the woman pimps use to keep all the other women in line. If his ‘relationship” with her goes sour, the results run from losing his “girls” to ending up in prison if she snitches. Beck says:

“He’s gotta keep his game tighter on his bottom bitch than on any bitch in the stable.”

Another older pimp advises Beck that:

“Pimping ain’t no sex game. It’s a skull game.”

Finally, when discussing the mistakes that led to his Federal conviction, Beck’s biographer states:

“Or perhaps it was his vanity that prevented him from “tightening his game,” as the other pimps called it.”

That quote could be posted to the RoK forum without anyone batting an eye.

The more I read of Beck’s biography, the more I’m convinced that those early PUA pundits were merely decriminalizing or “whitewashing” the same methods black pimps had been using for decades.

In another section, Gifford writes about Beck becoming acquainted with the “pimp’s toast” – … a long, profane poem that was performed orally and emphasized exaggerated sexual humor. It was composed of creatively rhymed couplets (often improvised), and featured punning, wordplay, and aggressive boasting.” Sound familiar?

Gifford goes on to confirm what I’d immediately suspected upon reading that passage; that the pimp toast was “… one of the origins of gangsta rap and hip-hop…” The toast Gifford then quotes from Beck’s autobiography would not seem out of place on any rap album.

It’s been a fascinating read about a distasteful subject and a completely reprehensible man. If Beck hadn’t begun writing during beginning of the civil right’s movement when everything and anything “black” was deemed “chic”, he’d only be remembered as a multiple convicted felon if he was even remembered at all.

I too have autism, and can’t find it within me to use others for money, sex, or fame. I see others do this on a daily basis for various reasons, often self-justified, and it never ceases to amaze how diametrically opposite their thinking is from mine. It’s why I 1) am a virgin and 2) will never care to change that. Sex isn’t worth the manipulation required to obtain it.

I have discovered a truly remarkable list of reasons why women are not necessary for a happy life, but alas this margin is too small to contain it.
