There is a group of hackers out there demanding that people pay a 100,000 dollar fine for crimes that they didn’t commit such as downloading illegal music or even illegal pornography. If anyone knows anything about this scam please contact me.

This is just a bulls~~~ email that everyone gets once in awhile, if you see a pop up for it, its just spyware.

Those are anti-piracy extortionists, outfits like brein who have taken it upon themselves to try and sue people for file sharing, but in reality they don’t work for the industry they just want to scam money off naive people by threatening them with massive lawsuits.

Do not respond to any emails or letters they may send. Doing so may make things worse. Don’t pay them either.

I send registered mail back to anybody billing me wheres I have a “dispute”, In the letter I state; I dispute this (whatever) and inform them to take legal action, or otherwise dissolve this balance, and to discontinue their harassment. One more letter without legal action, is legal harassment. it’s worked fine for me so far.

Never seen the 100k scam yet. But at work we’ve seen a few of the Ransomware attack s that encrypt your pdf’s and word files and give you 3 days to send them 500 bucks. I have to take a small bow to the genius of the scheme but I wish nothing but the worst for the people who implement this.

There are also people who hack into people’s computers and upload CP (yeah, that stuff) as some kind of character assassination thing. The cops get called and of course they find the illegal files and the onus is on the computers owner to prove it wasn’t them.

Of course the accused is forever tainted by the accusation, regardless of whether they were found innocent or not.

Scary stuff.
