As the roles at MGTOW.com swell so the amount of print media sales have slumped. It seems that a giant of the print media, the Village Voice, has stopped print publication all together.

So now MGTOW.com has the same reach as the Village Voice.

But we have a fresher, more heart felt and honest content and logical discussions.

    From the New York Times

After 62 Years and Many Battles, Village Voice Will End Print Publication

The Village Voice, the left-leaning independent weekly New York City newspaper, announced on Tuesday that it will end print publication. The exact date of the last print edition has not yet been finalized, according to a spokeswoman.

The paper’s owner, Peter D. Barbey, said in a statement that the move was intended to revitalize the 62-year-old Voice by concentrating on other forms, and to reach its audience more than once a week.

In recent years, many of the writers most associated with The Voice, including Wayne Barrett, Robert Christgau, Nat Hentoff and Michael Musto, have either died or been pushed out of the paper.

The print pages of The Village Voice were a place to discover Jacques Derrida or phone sex services, to hone one’s antipathy to authority or gentrification, to score authoritative judgments about what was in the city’s jazz clubs or off off Broadway theaters on a Wednesday night. In the latter part of the last century, before “Sex and the City,” it was where many New Yorkers learned to be New Yorkers.

Same happened in the UK with the Independent. Now it’s a poor online imitation of the HuffPo.

It looks like a zero sum game, that’s why the established media are making such a bogeyman out of ‘fake news’ like it hasn’t always been fake LOL. MGTOW.com scares the s~~~ out of them, and more importantly – their advertising sponsors. Capitalism just doesn’t GAF.

A monk has no need of either, but this place is too much fun not to visit. Also, it offers practical help in a confusing hostile world, and is off message compared to the rest of the matrix.

I see your point. Kind of like the drudge report, except covering topics on interest to Mgtow,….The Mgtow Report.

While there are many reasons why the print media is dying, the death of the Village Voice is a case of suicide.

As an arts and “intellectual” focused weekly they certainly operated in a niche, but even a niche can be big enough when you’re distributed in a metropolitan region of eight million people. Being a weekly also kept their production costs down while allowing more time for quality content production.

What went wrong? Look at this list of writers:

… Wayne Barrett, Robert Christgau, Nat Hentoff and Michael Musto…

Musto may be familiar to 5% of the membership here because of his TV appearances. As an terminally addicted bibliophile, I was able to place three while guessing correctly about the fourth.

To borrow some baseball terminology, Village Voice failed to fill their farm system with prospects while also failing to sign any high profile free agents. As the years passed, the VV team relied more and more on the same aging veterans, veterans whose production diminished and how, in some cases, actually died.

You can’t stand still. Not in life and especially not in publishing. The Village Voice, once vibrant and avant-garde, became stodgy and predictable. It failed to move with the times so the times have now moved on without it.

In recent years, many of the writers most associated with The Voice, including Wayne Barrett,

Who the f~~~ is Wayne Barrett?

    Robert Christgau,

Who the f~~~ is Robert Christgau?

    Nat Hentoff

Who the f~~~ is Nat Hentoff?

    and Michael Musto,

Who the f~~~ is Michael Musto?

And where was that Oxford Comma?

have either died or been pushed out of the paper.

And nothing of value was lost. Which is what happens when any publication tries to make it about personalities instead of facts.

The print pages of The Village Voice were a place to discover Jacques Derrida

Who the f~~~ is Jacques Derrida? See above.

    or phone sex services,

Now there’s a worthwhile service to the community. Does anyone use those in the internet age? Did anyone ever?

to hone one’s antipathy to authority

    Fact free echo chamber.

    or gentrification,

ProTip: Business do better when targeting customers with money, not people who can’t make the rent.

to score authoritative judgments about what was in the city’s jazz clubs or off off Broadway theaters on a Wednesday night.

    Pretentious fact free echo chamber.

Bulls~~~. Getting mugged teaches you to be a New Yorker. Getting p~~~ed on by some bum on the subway teaches you to be a New Yorker. Finding a second c~~~roach in your bagel teaches you to be a New Yorker. Reading some whiny leftist rag teaches you nothing.

It’s just another notch on the belt of Reality giving these rags a smack-down.

    Gawker – sued into bankruptcy

Salon – getting sued, and in decline

Just two examples or leftist-rags that none will miss.

I don’t see how you can compare a POS rag with MGTOW. To me MGTOW is more noble and saves men’s lives. Our way of life is becoming more and more popular everyday. MGTOW will soon help bring Feminism and the society it created down and bring back what should be. I don’t mind women having equal opportunity but I do mind them screwing society over to get equal outcomes. You get what you get based on merit not because of what you have between your legs.

Women's brains and vagina have one thing in common. There is nothing in there until a man puts something in there.

    I know of one way.

In 2016 The Village Voice claimed a circulation of 120,000. As a weekly. Actual readership would be lower than that.

How many page views does MGTOW.com receive in a week? Well I don’t know, but @keymaster likely does. I’m willing to bet it’s more than 120,000.

That is why legacy media is becoming increasingly irrelevant. And the fact that they constantly lie isn’t helping them either.

These old rotting and dying business are failing for one reason and one reason only.

    Lack of intelligence.

They are not smart enough and too stupid to know what to do to survive. Know how to plan in this business and economic and environment. Discern the signs of the times and how to best adapt and thrive in the marketplace.

They lack intelligence because they refuse to learn. They refuse to learn because they refuse to listen to what the market is saying.

Having a thriving business takes intelligence and the humility to change what needs to be changed and the lack of ego to adapt what needs to be adapted. And the courage and bravery to put one foot in front of the other consistently over time over and over again until success is had.

The world is not fair or nice. It is brutal and painful and if a business is too stupid to do all the things it needs to do including learning what to do and how to do it. Then it will simply cease to exist. It will die.

This site was sold by its original owner in secret. There is new management that doesn't care about quality. The new site is much better https://theindependentman.org

I’ve already seen these rapid changes taking place at MGTOW.com since I’ve been a member. That reassures me.
