I do think though that comparing 20’s to, say 70’s is a bit unfair.
20 to 40, certainly.
Debbie Harry, for example, was over 30 when Blondie was formed, so I wouldn’t expect her to look hot a full 40 years later.
Tina Louise (Ginger) is now 81, so not dead yet probably looks pretty good.
Also, some (most) of them have been into the shop for some bondo and a fresh coat of paint. I think it would be even more horrifying if they hadn’t.

Sometimes I see a woman in her 40’s, maybe 50’s, who use lots of makeup (more than women usually do), drinking beer at a bar and she’s very angry and bitter. I rarely see a woman like that alone, she’s there usually with another old hag friend of hers who looks just as pathetic.

I think their moody behavior has something to do with the wall and the fact they have recognized they’re no longer pretty. They are still desperately trying to look the same than when they were 20 but it’s obvious they’re not as happy anymore.
