Okay, I’m one of those TOOL-head guys. Love Puscifer and A Perfect Circle.

For anyone else who digs Maynard, how do you like, The Doomed and Hourglass?

Really enjoying the new album Eat the Elephant, so far on par with Thirteenth Step and I’m still chomping at the bit for the new TOOL album (maybe this year).

In hindsight, the 1st song on the album above, The Package from Thirteenth Step. You can interpret lyrics however you want, to solidify your own sovereign struggle or agree to how he is describing a selfish person (a woman if you want it to be).

    Lyrics to The Package:
    ….I don’t need another friend
….Take just what I came for
Then I’m out the door again
….Just give me what I came for
    I’m out the door again
Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get just what I need
Lie to get what I crave
Lie and smile to get what’s mine

    Eye on what I’m after
…..Nod and watch your lips move
If you need me to pretend
Because clever got me this far
    Then tricky got me in
I’ll take just what I came for
Then I’m out the door again

The Package also has some killer drum fills.

I remember replaying entire TOOL songs in my head (specifically Grudge) while literally treading water in fitness tests to qualify for Marine Recon training. Music can dull pain, heal and transcend your perspective. It can erase anger and catapult you into joy.

These lyrics from Maynard seem to always carry positive messages. The entire album Lateralus from TOOL is basically therapy starting with the first song called Grudge. Its a message about letting go of resentment and anger which will own you.

Then lessons in Patience and more. Its trite to think the music I listened to in my teens and twenties was the only music out there that can get people through but TOOL especially got me through it. I’m sure other people have music that they matured with.

I love Tool, they have such a unique sound and the lyrics are truth bombs. I also like A Perfect Circle not as much as Tool’s music though. I’m not a huge fan of Pucifer but I enjoy a few of their songs.

Tool has so many good songs it’s hard to pick a favorite. If I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be “Sober”. I just love the haunting guitar in the begging of the song. The sound is almost unnerving but in a good way. It has such a dark message on alcohol and drug addiction that rings so true.

I’m glad Maynard and crew are making new music, but I believe the older Tool albums will be hard to top.

    Back off Barbie!
