I paid off my house last week. I’m 3 years post-divorce and I’ve been saving like mad to get enough to do it. I decided to tell a few select people since I want to share milestones in my life when I can. However, after telling 5 people (3 family and 2 friends) all I got was ignoring I even said it and in one case “Well, no wonder. You are really cheap”. This really got to me and normally I don’t let things like that get under my skin.
Anybody ever get reactions like this? I’m normally over the top excited for people doing good things but I guess most people see it as somehow an indictment on their lifestyle maybe?
YES. This was actually in the news lately.
…. and he got shamed for it.
One women said “So you work two jobs and I can’t even get ONE.”. But nothing is stopping HER from being a waitress in TWO restaurants – working 16 hours a day – if she wants. She’s just LAZY.
Don’t EVER let these people get to you.
When someone in life tells you something you don’t like… wear a s~~~-eating grin and laugh like Tom Cruise. I’m dead serious. It works. And when someone calls you “cheap”, AGREE with them.
“You’re so f~~~ing cheap”
“That’s why I own a house that you will never get to steal from me.”
BIG congratulations on your mammoth f~~~ing accomplishment.
(damn screwed up my edit, but that should do it)
If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.2ravens congratulations on getting your home paid for. This might be a case of envy on the parts of those you told.
You win!!!
Welcome home my brother!!!
Love is just alimony waiting to happen. Visit mgtow.com.
Way to go, brother.
Don't stick your dick into anyone you aren't willing to put up with for eighteen years and nine months.
Anonymous54Ive been a renter all my life. I can only dream of such a thing. Congatulations!!!
HERE are the reactions you hoped for !
CONGRATULATIONS !
GIANT accomplishment for sure .
people tell me i’m cheap and i usually laugh out loud .
most of them have no idea what someone else’s expenses really are .
………………………………………………………………………….people judge their INSIDE’S from other peoples OUTSIDE’S.
they don’t know the sacrifice’s you made to do this.
they are probably incapable or just do damn complacent..
that’s great news , hope to share good stuff like that here one day as well !
ENJOY the home brother-man ! you EARNED it !I paid off my house last week. I’m 3 years post-divorce and I’ve been saving like mad to get enough to do it. That’s a good thing especially when the economy collapses. You have one less thing to worry about!

Paying off that bank slavery…
Reason why your friends and family don’t notice? They are brainwashed debt slaves. You see society has them brainwashed believing that having huge debts is logical and a part of life.
BULLS~~~.
I bought my house in cash. Yes, I paid a real estate lawyer to make sure everything was on the up and up. I know I am now paying rent to the state with property taxes but I live in the sticks and its not much. My “rent” which includes property taxes, utilities and internet comes out to 540.00 a month. Better than renting and I grow most of my own food.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
congrats pal!!! your friends and family are just jealous……jealous that you can be happy living a cost-effective lifestyle…..jealous of you financial stability and mortgage free life.
MGTOW is not a movement, it is a way of life.
Anonymous24Congratulations 2raven, big accomplishment!
A thought… now sell your home…
Take the cash and buy a four plex…rent three and live in one.Claim the entire basement and remodel that….
Not bad advice at all from Bunker. I know a guy who did this very thing and retired in his 40’s. He fishes in the ocean most days and just does whatever the f~~~ he wants with his time. No wifey, no kids…
Anonymous2Congradulations as Kat Williams would say ” Haters gonna f~~~in hate”! Just because you did something thats good they are jealous and envious they couldnt or didnt do themselves. That financial freedom is indeed “Priceless”!
Its a harsh reminder that we are all truly alone in the world. Your family doesn’t love you as much as you think they do. If you won the lottery tomorrow, some would hate you, others would beg you for money despite not talking to you for the last 10 years, and others would plot to kill you. This goes for friends as well.
I can assure you that your family and “friends” are seething and extremely jealous of your accomplishment. Look for them to begin distancing themselves from you or even picking some fights with you in the near future. I, for one, am proud and happy for you. I hope to be in your position one day soon.
Good for you, man. Other people are just jealous because they have to bleed money to the bank every month and get nothing to show for it. Now that you have extra cash, who’s going to be the cheap one?
I bathe in the tears of single moms.
Congratulations!
Nothing like paying off a debt.
They are just jealous.
Choose your feedback source wisely – No, wait, you’re already here!
Good job."It seems like there's times a body gets struck down so low, there ain't a power on earth that can ever bring him up again. Seems like something inside dies so he don't even want to get up again. But he does."
Anonymous1Congratulations man!
Enjoy your new home!Cheers.
This is normal. The dude on TV got shamed. Rich people get shamed. People without debt are stupid because they miss out on “tax deductions”.
All BULLS~~~.
My biggest congratulations to you! You have done awesome, and not only the house itself, but also the self-discipline you gained through frugal living will keep on paying you years to come.
You rock, man!Firstly, I add my sincere congratulations to the previous postors! (Is that a real word. Oh, well, you know what I mean.)
Don’t EVER let these people get to you.
A favorite piece of bumper sticker wisdom:
Other People’s Opinions Of Me
IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS!If they prefer the chains of debt slavery to the freedom of being debt free, then they made their collective choice. As for me, forbid it Almighty God!
Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?
Wow, thanks everyone for the great replies. I strive now to mostly keep my financial life private but I just felt the need to share with a few people on such a big event for me. I learned my lesson for sure with this.
Great job man! It’s an awesome feeling being debt free. Especially with a mortgage no less. And as others have pointed out, your family is just jealous they haven’t been able to get out of debt yet. Blue pillers are used to being in debt because they start families and let their wives/girlfriends spend their money. It’s a complete disaster for them.
As for being cheap goes, most of my family already calls me cheap. However, I just like to think of it as being smart about money and only buying quality things that’ll last. Like a house and then paying it off like you did.
