Currently, I just got a few dollar raise hourly at my job. It’s not much to live on my own by, but it’s enough for me to pay for car insurance and my own fuel so I can get around town finally.

But, I was wondering, what’s a good vehicle to save up for that you’d see for less than $10-$15,000 dollars? I live in Las Vegas and I’m asking also because I don’t want it to stand out too much because I don’t want to get unwanted attention. All I’m really looking for is a great car that’ll last me 5-15 years that’s used.

these days, cars are not built to last 15 years…..many of the electronic sensors and small components have max lifetime of 10 years….

i recommend saving up more money, then buy a used car……if you only have small amounts of savings, don’t buy one for now.

Toyota Tacoma, it has a frame, not a uni-body, they go forever with proper lubrication, and it’s a tuck, good for moving things. I got 225,000 on one and sold it, and the other 160,000 and still running strong, no smoke, no funny noises, no problems, and they always passed emissions tests with flying colors (a necessity with California’s strict emissions codes. Their v6 is a tried and true wonder. Vehicles that breakdown cost you more in the long run than vehicles that don’t. Research the internet for vehicle hate sites, and all the American Mfg’s take the cake! We’re #1 in most hated vehicles!

    Get this one:

    solstice

About 13K out the door used with low miles, even less w/o turbo.

When people ask or make comments about a midlife crisis (I’m 44), I tell them that call it my “celebration of marriage” vehicle. Celebrating the fact that I’ve never been in one (marriage that is), or the nasty ensuing divorce.

Never fails to shut the married guys or their wives the f~~~ up.

Thanks guys for the help and I’ll definitely look into it. I just wanted some of your opinions so I wouldn’t attract any unwanted attention from women.

hit up a few local used dealers..
walk out if they don’t want your money.
a honda civic will repel women and get you great miles per gal.
buy a real piece of crap with a good engine..
get UNDERNEATH it and look for leaks..
    manifold, gaskets, hoses..
kick the tires a while and make the sales_person squirm…

You can get used pre certified Hyundai’s for that price on one of their lower tier models like an Elantra which gives you good MPG,100k mile powertrain warranty, small key features, and a repellent for gold diggers. The car brand has come along ways from the past and I think you will be very impressed on the bang for ya buck.

Never lose sight of what brought you here.

Like Hitman said. Say very little, let him do the talking. Silence is your friend. Get his best offer. Leave and think about it. Give it a couple of days, let him stew. He wants to sell it.

    I live in Las Vegas

If you just need something for getting around town and don’t need to haul stuff or travel out of town and don’t mind being outside in the weather, you might consider a motorcycle or a scooter. They have a much lower cost of ownership than a car or truck and are easier to store and maintain.

I’m asking also because I don’t want it to stand out too much because I don’t want to get unwanted attention.

That shouldn’t be a problem with a scooter.

I love it when sales people squirm. My parents make them do that all the time when they get new vehicles. It’s awesome to watch their faces.

Looking back.. I would have gotten a moped. ha

I’ll look into scooters as well then. The most we locals have to deal with in Las Vegas is the heat, but I don’t mind it as much. I’m used to temps well over 100 degrees.

I just mainly need something to get around town with that has a motor in it. Riding a mountain bike all the time is a pain in the ass sometimes.
