Greetings fellas,
I am interested in archery (especially sports archery, maybe hunting in the future) but I would like some advice / insight on people who have had any experiences with it . How difficult is it ? Is it expensive ? Did you guys have fun while doing it or is it boring ? Any other tips that you can offer ?
Have a nice day and cheers.
Requires more skill than gun hunting.
Go to your local archery club. They will help you get started.

Requires more skill than gun hunting ? Whoa. I plan on starting sometime later this year.
One of the other reasons I find archery appealing is how well it suits an introverted person like me. Its just you, the target and the bow. It doesn’t require a partner like say, tennis or badminton.
I recall seeing an archery instructor on YouTube. He had lots of how-to tips from equipment to basic techniques.

I’ve been wanting to take it up for years. Anytime I’ve shot an arrow, it’s felt so amazing.
I actually bought a set of arrows from a Goodwill store a little over a year ago. Now I just need a good bow. I’m looking forward to picking up that hobby someday soon. Archers are awesome!
I’ve always found archery awesome, but never practised it besides an hour here and there. Would love to have an old skool wooden bow, a couple of arrows and just shoot at something!

A few things about archery, you need a bow that fits your draw length. Second, you need to learn how to c~~~ your wrist on the hand you hold the bow with, otherwise you will learn very quickly that if you don’t the bow string will road rash your inner forearm real bad. Thirdly, and this goes with any type of shooting, get to know your breathing rhythm, you want to pull the trigger or release the string either at the pause between inhale and exhale or after you exhale. We are taught in the military that these two spots in your breathing rhythm is when you are the steadiest. Lastly bows a rated on length and draw poundage, do not try to go out and buy a bow with a high draw poundage and expect to loose 20-30 arrows in one go. Compound bows do decrease the draw effort after a point, while with long bows and re-curve bows you will have that draw poundage through out the full draw of the bow. One nice outcome is it will help with your concentration. I’ve been bowhunting off and on for about twenty years until I messed my shoulder up.
I shot on an archery league years ago and it was fun. Archery is a calm, almost meditative activity. Nice bunch of guys that practice the sport, too.
I shot in the bare bow category in competitions. I liked the simplicity of no stabilizers or sights, though sometimes I’d switch and put on all the gadgets on, just so I knew what I could do with and without the technical aids.
I never hunted with it because I can’t bring myself to kill birds or mammals for sport, even though I’d eat the meat. I can catch and clean fish no problem, but just can’t do it with the furries. Though if I were hungry enough I’m sure I’d have no problem knocking thumper on the head.
So yeah, give it a go. And definitely join an archery club.

Like Jan.Sobieski says find you local archery club. They will often have members in the clubs looking to sell old archery equipment which would be perfect for someone just wanting to try it out. Sometimes the clubs even have a bow there to try. They will teach you everything you need to know. It can be an expensive sport if you are really into it. Started myself when I was 5, my parents let me shoot my bow in the shop at garbage bag full of grocery bags. Is very fun and hunting season here in Canada for bow hunting White Tail is in september so its a lot warmer then rifle season, that and the chokecherries are ready to eat.
I always wanted to do archery. I don’t know of any archery clubs near here. There used to be an archery range, but they turned it into a grassy field instead.
My best friend while in high school did archery, but they had to stop, because I’m assuming kids where horsing around and shooting at each other.
