Today is the first time in my adult life where I have went with out alcohol for such an extended time.I decided that nothing good has really came from drinking. The majority of the dumbest s~~~ I have done was while drinking. I will never say that I will not drink a beer again, but coming from someone who quit smoking cold turkey the will power is there. I just have to be disciplined. For now I am relearning how to cope with out having alcohol in my day to day life. Since stopping I have got up early on the weekends with out a hang over and managed to throw a few more bucks in savings. Also feel a lot better. I feel like I tapped into what was needed to be done all along.

    Congrats to you Sir.

Also quit drinking around April this year. Didn’t feel any really positive effects for at least 3 weeks, but then I started to feel better in every way.

Lost a ton of weight. Feel more confident, Higher Testosterone, More in control.

Smoking I find hard to quit permanently but Alcohol has been fine.

Makes me wonder why I used that energy sapping False Friend for so long.

I rarely drink, I actually went between the ages of 25 and 40 without having a single drink. After my divorce I started going out more and started drinking just to be social. What I realised was going out and being sober was incredibly boring, hence why nobody does it.

I also realised I don’t actually like being drunk that much, I prefer being me sober than having all of my senses dulled. I also hate feeling like s~~~ for the next day afterwards.

I like to drink quite a bit, but I don’t like getting drunk. Should probably cut down though for financial and possible health reasons.

Heck, even though I feel fine now, if I went a month without drinking, maybe I’d feel even better and realize that I wasn’t feeling so fine after all.

Woot first month is hard. Gets easier over time. I’m 32 years clean and sober.

I know drinking makes me depressed suicidal and reckless. My hs girlfriend helped straighten me out. For this I am forever grateful.

    GOOD FOR YOU!!!
I’m starting my fourth year without. Feel great, lost about 40 pounds. No hang overs, no feeling like s~~~, no more being really stupid, (well, not as much any way). One also starts thinking with the right head too…..
Hang in there, it does get easier!

Excellent! Don’t mind if others take a snort or three, but find my life rolls a lot smoother without guzzling that who-hit-john.

We just don't realize life's most significant events while they're happening. Back then, I thought, "Well, there'll be other days". I didn't realize that that was the only day. - "Moonlight" Graham

Ha, a friend of mine calls it “who-shot-john”. Says John Wayne used to call it that.

Yep, just check out The Shootist, immediately following a shootin’ lesson scene with Ronnie Howard…

Excellent news. I like reading things like this. Good for you, and it’d be truly splendid to keep that up. I envy those who quit alcohol totally. My mum did that 10 years ago and is still dry. Well done.

Last year I went for one month alcohol free, for the same reasons you state. I noticed that not only was I getting out of bed easier, but I had more money, and started looking a bit better. But something else happened, something I hadn’t anticipated…

… I began feeling positive and healthy emotions I hadn’t felt too sharply 15 or 20 years – especially empathy and care. The old teenage me returned. Not only that, but passions for the smallest, simplest things started flooding back.

There is SO MUCH to be said for living an alcohol free life. Alcohol IS NOT your friend.

Congratulations, even if I have not even an hint how it could work alcohol addiction: I like to get drunk, it’s a lot of fun, but when I get drunk in the aftermath I feel revulsion for alcohol for at least two weeks, so I don’t even realize how it works addiction.

This is great news I am so happy for you keep it up and you will begin to feel better as time goes by. If you can quit cold turkey smoking you will do fine with the drinking too as May said the first month is the hardest after that it will get easier.

Well done sir. I should take my lesson from you. Large parts of my life were wasted on boozing it up. My ex is 15 years sober and finally better for it (she can still be quite the bitch though:).

Although I don’t drink much even a couple of beers in the evening completely throws my sleep pattern off. Basically if I drink I’m only getting 3-4 hours of sleep, that’s it. When I drink more than 6 I better not be around people because my filter is off and I can’t hear what others say to me. I had to serve up some apologies last week to three good men because I was a bit of an asshole while half cut (the Red Pill idea tends to come out of me unfiltered when drunk- dangerous!)

When I don’t drink I am so much better off. I’ve never gone a month straight without one though. Time to do it myself (a little later in the summer).

    Keep it up good sir!

Everyday above ground is a good one. Everyday above ground while single...better still.

I just made 3 weeks today. I was a daily drinker for years. I don’t even miss it.

    I have almost 24hours sober.
5hours till my next drink of bourbon.
    (Weekend is always sober),
A nightcap for medicinal purposes is my thing.
But I truly appreciate your post and it’s inspirational to me. Thanks!
