I haven’t played video games in a long time because I got tired of it,but a few months ago I was digging in my shed and I came across a box with my old nintendo and all of my old games. I was bored so I figured I would take it inside and hook it up so I could play some old games I haven’t played in years. When I got it all hooked up I put a game in and got the dreaded blinking red light that usually means your about to have to sit around blowing in the cartridge for 20 minutes to get the damn thing to work. After many failed attempts I decided to research on how to fix an old nintendo on the internet and came across a really cool article that I will link here http://fami-complex.blogspot.com/2011/06/how-to-repair-nintendo-nes-or-dont-buy.html . It explains a really easy way to take apart your old nintendo and tweak it so it will work every time without all the struggeling we use to have to go through as kids! So I did it and it worked great and within minutes I was playing mario and mega man and having a great time! SInce then I have fallen back in love with the old NES system and have been spending hours playing all the old classics and have even been buying “new” games for it off of ebay. To my surprise tons of people are into retro gaming and game collecting these days and some of the old games are worth hundreds and even thousands of dollars in some cases. Even the less rare popular games are selling for 20-40 dollars a piece on ebay because of collectors! So if you have a old nintendo in the garage check out that article and fix it up for a fun project and have a blast playing some old games! or maybe check and see if you have any rare games laying around that could make you a ton of cash on ebay!

For those of us who wished that we kept all of our old s~~~ (games, toys, etc) and didn’t, you can still get a lot of the original NES and SNES games via the Wii and WiiU online store(s) for these newer platforms.  I have totally indoctrinated my kids (12 and 9) into all of the old Mario and Zelda games and they love them — right alongside the brand new ones.

Yeah I sold all my sega genesis games when I bought a playstation 2 and now I really regret it because I had a ton of games and they were all good ones. Not to mention they are worth a lot of money now also. Emulators are cool but its just not the same, I like using the old controllers and having the exact same gameplay without any improvements.

Did the same with a SNES once, works too!

There’s a way of emulating and still using the old console and controllers.

I know a guy who creates cartridges which are in the same format as a original game, but you can put in a SD-Card with games on it which you can download online for free.

You can put that emulation <span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>cartridge into your console then and just choose a game from the list (stuff you have on the SD). After that, everything is like you would have the real game.</span>

I only know of a N64 version of that currently, not sure if he tried to do it for older consoles after that.

I hacked a wii and use it almost exclusively for NES/SNES emulation. Mostly because while I have a working SNES and Genesis, games are so damn expensive, and the classic controller is a reasonable replacement for the old controllers. Thanks for the link though, I like fixing up old stuff, and a busted NES can probably be found on the cheap, repairing it will be fun.

I’ve been gaming a long time, PC and console, since about 1990. I can’t play the old games anymore, the graphics suck and the gameplay is far too limiting. Much prefer something like fallout 3 or skyrim where I have a huge world to explore. Yeah, a lot of games suck, but growing up with the evolution of gaming, I can say that games today are much better. I used to get off the bus at the mall, then walk 4 miles home when I was done, so that I could sit in Gamestop and play Goldeneye for 4 hours straight. They didn’t care, because I was good at the game, and the TV sat by the door, and got people to buy it because they would ask me questions about the game and see me playing it.
