I suspect it’s like when any ideaology goes mainstream a generation or two later. It gets watered down, flattened, and reassembled into something resembling the lowest common denominator of human existence which demands a super low level of consciousness. In this case, “don’t hate people based on their race or gender” gets re-molded to fit an uneducated inclination to raw hatred and irrational reflexes and it just doesn’t fit, and comes out completely inverted.
