Remember the days when technology wasn’t as prevalent as abused as it is now? Remember when video games were working(*cough*Batman: Arkham Knight*cough*), cost less, and didn’t have DLC and microtransactions? Remember when special effects were more practical? What was your favorite moment(s) of that time?

Mine, personally, was playing the first three SSX games on my PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Some of the best racing games and co-op games I had.

What is the problem of Batman: Arkham Knight? Too many bugs?

SSX.. snowboarding. I remember that most epic piece. Get enough hang-time and a large enough combo.. all would go quiet for a second, the music would lower, and a you could hear was the air rushing by you as you held that position mid air stunt as long as you could bleeding it of every last point before landing it. Ahhh. .. the memeories.

For me it was Sled-Storm with the Rob Zombie soundtrack!

In an era of less than prevalent technology?

Enjoying the smell of fresh cut grass.  Hunting, fishing, skiing, playing football.

The call of a bird at dusk.

    Playing kickball.

The PC port crisis. Not that I play the game on PC. I’m planning to play it on PS4.

A friend of a friend has one of those old pong games. The game is displayed through a glass table top. It was designed to be a money machine for beer bars back in the late ’70s. The players could rest their glasses on the table while they fed quarters into the machine. Great fun while you’re snockered.

Anyone remember the TV show “Movie Magic”? It showcased the latest special effects in recent movies back when CG was too expensive for the most part, so everything tended to be practical effects with as little CG used as possible. I used to be enthralled by that show for hours on end and could watch marathons of it.

I miss when Google didn’t run the world with it’s creepy tracking and Facebook hadn’t ruined social interatction yet. It makes me sick when I see yet another young guy crying that he has no idea how to do social interaction because he grew up on facebook and myspace and now he just sits in public fiddling with his phone instead of actually doing ANYTHING. Also f~~~ information bubbles: I like hearing facts, not what you want me to hear! Altavista was king.

I also miss when Tucows (remember them?) sorted out software both by rating and cost so you could find and try freeware without having to search though pages and pages of outdated junk. Apparently companies forced them to stop doing that as people just didn’t want to buy nagware when there were decent free options around. I wish there were another site like that somewhere. It would be wonderful! Sourceforge is OK, but there’s so much unfinished stuff that it’s a pain to work with.

my old N64 and Dreamcast – happy days! Plus I am a sucker for all things Christmas – I am a complete grump 11 months out of the year but turn back into a little kid once it gets dark and cold and people put their lights up in December

Sunday afternoon watching some Christmas crap like Jingle all the Way is awesome!

Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be 😛

I would say a problem today is game development has gotten to be way too complicated to not have issues with bugs.  Take the PC game market, and you have it even worse than with consoles, due to the diversity in hardware platforms.

Some of those old Playstation games are a blast. Toy Story II, Gran Turismo II, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Driver, Twisted Metal IV, WWF Smackdown II, Tony Hawk Pro Skater. It’s amazing what they did with so little.

The PC had many good games back in the day too. The Need For Speed Series up to atleast Porsche Unleashed is an excellent example.

    Gran Turismo II

As far as Racing games go.. Road Rash 3 was addictive as hell.

Fighting games hands down for me was the Original Soul Edge.

In the flight realm I would have to pick the Nuclear Strike/ Desert Strike series.

I always liked Road Rash ’95 and my cousin was  fond of the game too. I got introduced to Road Rash through the original Sega Genesis version though. For fighting games I like Fatal Fury II. For WW2 air combat IL2 is my preference and I do want to get a copy of DCS Mig-21 when the price drops.

Oh I have a few. I played a bunch of obscure (and quite frankly weird) PC games like Adiboo(which was awful IMO), Creatures Unleashed – I could never understand it because of how complex it was – American McGee’s Alice (I shouldn’t have been playing at that age, heh), RuneScape way back in 2008, Flying Heroes by TakeII (loads of fun, but unfortunately had a game-breaking bug near the end in career mode), Banjo Kazooie for the N64, Skies of Arcadia for GameCube… Good memories for all of them.

I used to absolutely adore Beyblade when I was a kid. Obsessed with it.

Got myself a three pack of Need for Speed games from fleabay. I got NFS III: Hot Pursuit, NFS IV: High Stakes and NFS V: Porsche Unleashed. With the right tools they all run well on Windows 10 too.

We used to play runescape in school over 10 years ago and also I remember stumbling onto the game aimlessly roaming the internet around the year 2000. I remember a Creatures game as well, but it didn’t run terribly well, it was confusing and my animals always died frequently.

My tech nostalgia is the whole history of personal computing. I fell in love with computers with the Commodore 64. Lots of games and programs, yes. My favorite was the machine language monitor cartridge. I could make that little box do amazing things.

For my part I guess I would have to say anything 8- or 16-bit, as well as a decent number of games on the PS1. The release of Mega Man Legacy the other day made me a very happy camper.
