An acquaintance died some while ago.

He was highly regarded by all who knew him, so quite a few people expressed an interest in going to his funeral.

The wife said ‘only close family’.

At first, I was surprised, but recently reflecting on this, I realised why.

A small number would mean that she would be the ‘distraught widow’ and the centre of attention. It would be about HER. If however there was a lot of people, then it would – as it should be – be about HIM.

Either that or she didn’t want to pay out for drinks for everyone at the wake

They’re notoriously tight fisted when they think it’s their money

And men are deploying the most devastating weapon of all – indifference. In this final battle who cares least wins.

This is why I want to go just my last Uncle did about 5 years ago. Nobody knew but 3 people(my brother, sister, and me.) It was only a month after we did the proper service people found out. (his kids he paid child support on that were not his, ex wife that got knocked up while he was in Vietnam). They didn’t deserve to know. May God rest his soul and I want to go just like him.
Edit- I’m going to make a post on this fine Veteran.

In such a situation, here is what you do. Find a decent picture of your friend, only showing your friend. Pool your money and throw a party for your friend, while not inviting the wife.

During the party toast you dead friend and take a picture of everyone doing the toast. Post the picture, with the words below the picture being, “There are his friends whom she did not invite to the funeral.”

In my opinion, wakes and funerals are a complete waste of time and money.

If however there was a lot of people, then it would – as it should be – be about HIM.

In my opinion, The only problem with this is that your acquaintance is Dead. So, it’s not like HE can APPRECIATE ANY OF THIS. The Ole Lady is going to do WHATEVER she wants, and it’s not like you would ever have anything to do with her or their family anyways. So, just what are you missing out on by not attending a wake/funeral of an “acquaintance” ????

They are a billion dollar industry subsidized on nothing but guilt and obligation.

I’m starting to think that many of these t~~~s look forward to these events. Btw, did anyone see Ariana’s dress at Aretha Franklin’s funeral? Post it if you can. She looked like she was oozing with STDs.

I was going to snip a pic of Ariana, but got distracted by this beauty…
This photo is EPIC in it’s collection of subjects.
There is so much that could be said about this foursome…of what they have done for to our country.
Louis+Al+Jesse+Bill = overload of, well, something. Four horsemen of the Apocalypse?
