Nice to have features

First of all thanks for creating this NINCE website! I love it. I got a list of suggestions that I think will make this website even better.

1. Reply alert next to the avatar.
2. Easier topic creation process. Forum categories in a dropdown box, so that we don’t have to click on forums > select forum > scroll down > create new topic.
3. Infinite scrolling, so that it’s easier to go through older topics.

drop down for forums is great idea. there is already drop down for languages, about, and archives.

Create topic is for whatever forum you’re in. You don’t ever have to select anything. If you’re in Central, just compose and done. You’re not meant to be able to create topics in other forums. But I would agree there should be a sidebar or forums list at all times so you don’t have to return to the forums index to go to another room.

AND….. this is also taken care of with the “LAST 10” feature which includes the “LAST 100” forum posts. as well as the live rotator at the top. Clicking “view reply” could jump you directly to that forum. We don’t really want to limit you to just one room, so I would agree that a constant ability to easily jump to any room should be added right away.

We thought about this and built it in to your profile. When you log in you arrive on your member homepage. Click Forums directly under your avatar and this pulls up your forums activity, subscriptions, favorites and whatever else –in an infinite scroll page……. show more……. show more…… etc………..

We can’t really do this in the forums and have to stick to standard pagination for now because of Google indexing. When you create a new topic, you are creating “a new webpage” on our site. This gets indexed with Google and is searchable and so are the replies.

Infinite scrolling would complicate this tremendously, but it MIGHT be doable.

All noted. I like the Alert the best. Lemme check it out and see if it’s feasible. We’re also planning extras in that area. A couple of members request not to have the number of topics and replies they created always visible to everyone, so we hid those.

If Im understanding you correctly…. .how about adding all forums to the “Forums” menu at the very top menu next to “contact”?

Click it and it would drop all forums down in a list and you could jump from there.

Would that take care of it?

for example, when you click archives, it drops down to 9 different options

We probably can’t keep it this way because the forums index is important for an overview – especially for new members. Plus, it was a f~~~ing bitch to put together. But we will put together an “always available” sidebar which can jump you to other forums at all times. It’s probably more feasible but until then we will keep it this way for now – for your convenience.

it seems very good the way it is now. Drop down is a beauty!

the forums index is the first item in the drop down menu. i’m sure new members will click on the index after a few tries.

the only small change in the future is making the forums index more visible so it’s more obvious for new members to click on.

Wow thanks Keymaster, that was swift! You never ceased to amaze me, keep up the good work!!!

Btw, I tested the forums dropdown on a smaller screen, don’t know if it is possible to add a vertical scrollbar, as it is now, many forum categories are not visible because the screen is not tall enough to show all the items.

Anyways, cheers, have a beer or two don’t work too hard brother, after all it’s weekend!

i have a suggestion:
the subscribe button on the top of a thread should stand out more. Perhaps make it blue instead of grey. I click this button all the time……….new users may find it hard to find this button

Glad you were pleased! The drop down at the top was a good solution but we want everyone to visit the forums index at least once when they discover the site. So a better solution (which also does away with the massive menu of forums) is to add it to the sidebar – visible at all times – AND we can now show recents with # of comments etc.

Yes they are plain text now but we will style them better ASAP.

We have done it already and began testing it!! Works GREAT. Before we can turn it on we have one thing to work out. Would like to implement before the holidays and trying…….. but yes we have a live chat but can’t just allow everyone to message anyone, so a few “rules” need to be set first.
