The NFL Players Association announced it has filed a grievance challenging the league’s new national anthem policy.
In May, NFL owners unanimously approved a new anthem policy that requires players to stand if they are on the field during the performance of the Star-Spangled Banner. The new policy gives players the option to remain in the locker room, if they want. The NFL subjects the teams to a fine, if a player or a member of team personnel does not show respect for the anthem.
Players have been kneeling, sitting and raising fists during the national anthem in an effort to raise awareness for racial and social injustice in America since Colin Kaepernick took a knee before a preseason game in 2016.
“Our union filed its non-injury grievance today on behalf of all players challenging the NFL’s recently imposed anthem policy. The union’s claim is that this new policy, imposed by the NFL’s governing body without consultation with the NFLPA, is inconsistent with the collective bargaining agreement and infringes on player rights.
In advance of our filing today, we proposed to the NFL to begin confidential discussions with the NFLPA Executive Committee to find a solution to this issue instead of immediately proceeding with litigation. The NFL has agreed to proceed with those discussions and we look forward to starting them soon.”
The NFL’s protests during the national anthem have drawn criticism from President Donald Trump. Jerry Jones and Bob McNair are among the NFL owners that have called on players to stand. Kaepernick and his former 49ers teammate Eric Reid have both filed collusion cases against the NFL.
———-The NFLPA must have a collective IQ of 50. Sad to see a game I use to enjoy watching crash and burn so stupidly.

Rich racist f~~~tards and many criminals, tossing b~~~~ thinking they are doing great things, when none of these games has any practical meaning in the real world, at all.
You put some tangible comsequences behind the games, like the losing teams’ mayor gets executed, or the winning team gets to send 100 homeless people to the losing town, or some real world gain or loss, and then the games will mean something in the real world.
Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.
Thanks you for posting this. Every year I get cable for 6 months just to watch the NFL and every year I get closer and closer to not bothering. This probably tipped me over the edge.
I used to follow the Green Bay Packers way back in the pre-Lombardi days of Tobin Rote as QB, but no more. I wrote and told them that they can keep their political activism. Am I getting old, or what? I can remember the Sheboygan Redskins joined the NBA (only for one year) and when Northwestern University was the number one ranked college football team.
Wait until you see this year’s ratings.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a simple act of resistance get this f~~~ed up. The NFL only gives a s~~~ about someone kneeling during the national anthem because about 8 years ago they started taking money from the US military. They turned the beginning of the game into a patriotic recruitment commercial.
Then one guy kneels during the anthem just to let everyone know that, as great as this country is, it isn’t perfect.
Then, in a perfect deflection move, someone makes it about the flag and patriotism. The right go crazy. The original message is lost. Fakebook goes crazy on both sides. People start talking about the national anthem policy like it actually matters. I don’t get it.
If you care about this issue you are being played for a fool. And you are losing. It was just a deflection to stop people from talking about killings in the streets. And it worked.
Generation butt-hurt snowflakes gets their ass handed to them again.
Watch, don’t watch. I don’t really care. But don’t let this issue decide for you because if you do, either way, you are being played.

Try doing the same thing at work to see what happens. Start espousing your political beliefs, or telling customers abortion is wrong, or Trump is X or Y, etc. The NFL is NOT the government so this is not a matter of free speech. The NFL is a private employer and private employers can often fire you for no cause. The NFL is stupid and incompetent for letting this happen.

Let me say this one more time: The NFL only cares because it sold the beginning of the games to the US military for cash. They are protesting during a paid advertisement. The NFL doesn’t give two s~~~s, our government does. It paid for the time and it doesn’t want to be embarrassed during their paid time.
And that does a great job of getting off message which is the fact that cops still kill black people. Now, I’m not taking a big stand on that issue, I’m just saying that’s the issue. But our government would rather have us arguing over someone taking a knee during a song than what is really going on in our country. So they deflected the issue. And based on most people’s reaction, they did a pretty f~~~ing good job too.
I’m guessing that if I saw a friend turn into a dead body because of a bullet to the brain I probably would care even less about someone taking a knee during a song than I do currently. But I know which issue matters to me more.

I don’t give a s~~~ anymore. The NFL is not getting 2 cents of my money. EVER.
You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home
The NFLPA should also file grievance that there are no women playing, or LGBTSNDFCLHJDHSWJKWD represented….A lot of money and the players are still not satisfied?
They are paid to play…They are not paid to be idiots…We have politicians for that already…If I work at a company, I am expected to follow company rules. Otherwise I could look for another job and stop bitching…Thats free trade…
Try doing that sort of stunt to Google or Apple companies…See if you can even negotiate…
I stand with feet apart and let my balls hang free...Manginas dont have balls...See how they stand and sit at the whim of their masters...

I laughed out loud for real and could not help
coming up with a few more liabilities that should be
imposed upon the losing nfl teams and the cities they represent.
Why should only the team suffer a loss?
the entire city should have to suffer.
Sounds like political correctness to me.Not only send a hundred out of work homeless,
but the losing city must provide jobs and houses
for those homeless people from the winning teams
city.Love and respect to all
I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.
i can’t really see how a football player can sit or kneel during the anthem and then play the football game with all that social-political pressure on his sitting/kneeling.
