Edit: If the link doesn’t work, you can google New York Times and Keith Mumphery. Sorry for the inconvenience but it’s worth a read.

In a nutshell, the player went out with a girl while at Michigan State. They mess around and “perhaps” have sex. She later accuses him of sexual assault. The police investigate and clear him. That’s once.

Michigan State’s title 9 office investigates. They exam texts, interview friends, interview a nursing supervisor who oversaw and exam of the woman. The player is not allowed to defend himself. The panel clears him. That’s twice.

She appeals. MSU sends an email to him at an old email address that he know longer uses, so he knows nothing of the appeal. This time he is held responsible for relationship violence and sexual misconduct. Two days later, after practice with the Houston Texans, a coach calls him into his office, tells him about the case for the first time, and they release him. Career over.

The rest of it is a scary read about what the “ONE PHONE CALL” can do to a man.

And women wonder where all the good men have gone.

    ————– Article Excerpt —————————-
Accusations of sexual assault offer perilous waters in which to swim as a reporter, an investigator, a lawyer. Sexually charged texts and a photograph, which exist in this case, can establish flirtation but do not speak to consent — the woman claims in her own lawsuit and in police reports that she was very drunk and had consumed well in excess of a dozen shots of vodka before Mumphery arrived. She insisted she could not agree to have sex. Mumphery disputes that the woman was drunk. A police report states that surveillance videos show her walking “with a steady gait” and with no trouble keeping her balance. Mumphery says that she opposed his use of a condom and that they did not have sex. The woman says she has been traumatized.

What is clear is that the consequences for Mumphery of this broken process are perilously close to that of a criminal conviction. Mumphery is boxed in a societal cell. He has not gotten a tryout with another N.F.L. team, and at 25 he sees his prime earning years as an athlete slipping by. He was an honor roll student and class president with a 1240 SAT score at his high school, and with this mark on his record, he is unlikely to gain admittance to another graduate program.

    Worse news:
    1) The woman is suing him even though he has minimal resources for her to obtain.
    2) Given his on campus fame, she would have known him and obviously wanted to become pregnant. She probably has another target in line for a praternity lawsuit.
    3) He will be forced to look into European offers to continue playing football, not the most lucrative market for sure.
    4) Proof that the threat is real, he was not a dumb jock but someone with intelligence.

A damn shame too, because my team (Texans) could have really used his talent to aid Deandre Hopkins.

Women are always the downfall to every good man.

I know that son of a bitch is guilty! He’s gonna pay!

    *Police investigate, find him innocent*

    S~~~. Do over!

*Title IX panel clears him of any wrongdoing*

F~~~! That didn’t count! I want another do over!

*Finally gets the result she wants*

See? Told you all he was guilty and gonna pay. Justice has been served! I would never lie, I was telling the truth this whole time!

Jebus H. Cripes… What kind of world is this where even if you’re found not guilty of anything against a woman and she’s proven to be lying, she still gets to keep trying until she gets what she wants? F~~~, man.
