I have been lurking on internet forums since the hey-day of google groups.

Only now have I found an online forum that I felt worthy of my time to post to, unworthy as I am. In other words I found an internet home.

Please help a middle aged bro out…
Likes are important? Why? Do you get a prize?
If you get n number of likes on a thread that you start do your man points increase?

What differentiates solid black star posters from silhouette star posters? Some of the silhouette star posters have a count in the 10s of thousands but no solid star for them.

likes are just an appreciation of what is said.
the star you see means at least 5000 likes.
then you have the option to choose the star ,
or show how many likes you have.

i choose the star because i have probably third or 4th amount of likes…
almost 30,000

i have sent a couple dozen p.m.’s to men here encouraging them to take the star,
so lurkers can’t see who is here longer…

The +1s only serve as a means to tell if someone has had enough posts that were liked by men.

No prize, no money.

Someone with 10K posts mean they proably aren’t a chick.

At a certain point you can turn off the number and just have a black star. It means you don’t care if anyone likes you or not.

Thanks Hitman, it does. I did look for an explanation page but did not find one. If there is one, apologies.
BTW, I do get the ‘like’ feature, I just never understood why it was important to some.

@Grue check out “C~~~s Punted” too…click on someone’s username, scroll to the bottom. You’ll see the # listed there – each of those is a tuna that someone’s speared aka taking out the trash.

A +1 has no value except “appreciation”, really. Many times I want to say “yes! I heard that” or give a nod … and it’s in lieu of typing it out when there may be noting further to add. If a members responds further, you can show you read it and appreciated it. That’s all.

Over time… the +1 add up , and a few members requested the ability to hide the star count after 5000. We did a custom solution for a few long time members, and then added that ability on every profile to “hide” the +1 count with a single black star. Over time the “number” doesn’t matter anymore.. but it can be assumed that member is established with good rep.

No that applies to everyone and that started JUST for fun in an effort to keep the forums “for men only”…… and contacting if they see a problem.

Have had plans to eventually offer some kind of credit/reward for that, but we don’t want to OVER-incentivize booting the baby out with the bath water. It’s still a way of letting others know you contributed to watching out in an extra way.

MGTOWer and RoyDal, Ned, Mach, Blade, MACHO(!), Old Bill, Hitman, Gargamel, HR Puffin Stuff, Cap and so many more have been terrific about this. Couldn’t do it without your efforts. The group effort has been incredible.

Actually , a manual separate sheet is kept (and it’s not perfectly accurate) but you had +9 coming to you that now reflect. Have to go to each profile and add them manually…. so really, it’s when I get around to it. A thousand thanks again.
