Well as some of you may know I recently came into possession of 2 Dell Poweredge R710 servers. I currently have one powered up using 2008R2 which is EOL however its what came with the unit so until I have a viable replacement OS this is what I will use.
My questions are
How would you net-workers setup your home network with security in mind so as to minimize the attack plane so to speak?
What OS is recommended? My uses will be Virtual Machining and File Storage for the most part. Flexibility is key. Current products I would like, NO EOL or out of date hack my ass OS please
I have a watchguard firewall for network security so that base is covered.
Im pretty much a noob at owning a server or complex networking, I can DHCP res, set statics, port forward and what not but virtual networks are a new world to me that I need to explore more.
Id like to approach this setup with security in mind. If anyone has any advice, thoughts, or suggestions that would help greatly.
Thanks in advance I look forward to reading the replies! (If any)

The only advice I can give is the OS. Linux is probably best But now a Windows based system is more stable than what coming out of Cupertino. (I can’t believe I just said that)
OS11 is stable but quality control on the hardware is questionable. I’m actually planning my own server at home with a Tor based network.
Once I’m finished I’ll share my specs. Keep checking the tech forums. Those guys are the pros. Let me know what you come up with.
Good luck!

Thanks Shellz I will do that. I’ll keep an eye out for your setup specs as well!
